The Vehicle Fleet Services (VHS) team, both nationally ranked and a growing part of Engineering Services, is looking for a talented individual who is passionate about their work and eager to make a difference. As part of our team, you will perform skilled maintenance and repairs on vehicles and/or equipment in an area of specialization and will work on diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining light duty vehicles (cars, trucks, SUVs) and related equipment. Duties and Responsibilities
- Determines need for repair or replacement of components and in house serviceability or need for external vendor repair
- Performs repair work for specialty equipment (repairs tires; wiring systems, engine repairs, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, heating, and air conditioning systems)
- Conducts road calls for field equipment repairs
- Executes preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment to include inspections and tests maintenance and repair work to ensure quality levels and completion
- Assists with daily shop operations and completion of related paperwork
- Provides supervisory coverage when needed
- Completes data entry and maintains records into fleet management system
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and four years of fleet and/or equipment maintenance experience related to assignment
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing/Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or ability to obtain within 45 days of hire
- 609 Certification (Air Conditioning) required within 90 days of hire
- North Carolina State Vehicle Safety & OBDII Emissions Inspectors License or ability to obtain within six months
Preferred Certifications:
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications in Automobile or Medium-Heavy Truck, Forklift certification
Additional Information
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge in working with light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment
- Customer service principals
- Ability to prepare and maintain schedules
- Experience in using automotive diagnostic software
ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Heavy Work:
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and frequent exposure to intense noise.
