The Role and Responsibilities
The RFA team is looking for a Food Safety Manager having extensive experience in dealing with food safety, food quality, food governance, food policy and associated strategy and risk management areas. As a Food Safety Manager, you will be leading complex engagements, building high performing teams, shaping business strategy, guiding clients to help achieve their strategic objectives and serving as a thought leader to deliver cutting-edge solutions.
This professional should bring in relevant consultative or industry experience that demonstrates knowledge of the industry issues with demonstrated experience in solving for food safety, product traceability and sourcing transparency challenges. The professional should be well positioned to operate in an advisory environment with close engagement with senior client stakeholders, industry leaders, policy makers, and technology vendors. The Food Safety Manager will be expected to be able to understand the client needs, stay ahead of industry leading approaches, develop strategies, connect process & capabilities with governance & technology, and operate in a global team environment.
Specifically, your role will include the following responsibilities:
- Manage client engagements focused on food safety program review, food traceability and compliance with the FDA’s Food Traceability Rule, and supplier food safety and traceability assessments.
- Provide expertise on guidelines for drafting food safety assessment frameworks, implementing lot level traceability, supplier compliance management, and provide regulatory expertise related to the FDA’s Food Traceability Rule
- Serve clients as a thought leader in the food safety and traceability space
- Gather and lead large teams on specific engagements or initiatives by providing vision, structure, and disciplined execution
- Lead business development, sales and market growth initiatives including leading client conversations, supporting RFP responses, and developing sales strategies
- Mentor junior colleagues in this area by investing in their skill development and career progression
- Serve as a thought leader for conveying Deloitte’s perspectives in the market, as needed
- Exhibit a professional demeanor at all times, with ability to lead discussions, present ideas and collaborate internally and externally in a professional manner
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail, quality mindedness and time management
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal, in English) with strong presentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently, while adhering to strict deadlines
What are we looking for?
We are looking for client-facing leaders with experience in food safety, food quality, food governance, food policy and associated strategy and risk management areas.
To do this job effectively, it will be important that you have deep expertise and knowledge in:
- Current and emerging relevant frameworks, convening organizations, and reporting requirements related to the above topics
- Industry leading methodologies and frameworks
- Data analysis, quantification and measurement approaches
- Data and technology vendor landscape, best practices, and implementation
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Public Health
- Knowledge of Global Food Safety Initiatives (GFSI), Safe Quality Food (SQF) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)
- Holds one or more of the following licenses or certifications: HACCP, FSSC, BRC, GFSI, PCQI, SQF, ISO, FSM, COC, ROHS
- 6+ years of relevant work experience in food safety, food quality, food governance, food policy and associated risk management areas or equivalent
- Demonstrated thought leadership around relevant industry frameworks, standards, practices
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative analysis to support decision-making and successfully and effectively communicating your findings to a broad spectrum of people
- Highly motivated, ambitious, and a quick learner given this evolving field
- Experience leading and working collaboratively on teams to develop and deliver innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Ability to travel up to 75%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at anytime in the future
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $88,564.00 to $170,913.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
