University Housing is now hiring! We are looking for motivated leaders to help lead a team of career and student staff in our Dining & Culinary Services department on the UW-Madison campus.
Food Service Assistant Managers help manage the daily operations of the dining unit, oversee and develop staff, and provide exceptional customer service.
This is a full-time appointment, and the starting annual salary is $51,000 or higher based on qualifications and includes a competitive retirement and benefits package, including paid time off.

Responsibilities: Oversees daily food service operations including staff management and/or customer issue resolution in environments such as dining, retail, and/or catering venues to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve food service goals. This individual identifies work unit needs and contributes to the development of unit processes and procedures.
- 20% Develops, implements and oversees workflow components, and assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff
- 40% Selects, develops, implements and schedules logistics and menus for daily and catering operations
- 20% Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities
- 10% Assists with unit budget monitoring, management of inventory levels, and staff training
- 10% Monitors adherence to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures, identifies needs and makes recommendations for improvement to leadership
Tasks:
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all catering clients, maintaining a high visibility at all assigned events and functions.
- Drive food delivery trucks to efficiently transport staff and supplies to other units and/or events.
- Implements standards for food quality and presentation, customer service, operations, and sanitation for all catered events.
- Interact with customers while displaying knowledge of food products, allergens, and food safety.
- Perform duties in a high-volume, dynamic, student residential dining environment.
- Plans and leads daily catering operations
- Supervise and lead the work of dining staff and student workers.
- Serves as primary contact for event day coordination and where event management presence is needed, serves as primary lead.
- Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency.

Qualifications:
– One year or more of leadership experience within food service required.
– One year or more of management experience preferred.
License/Certification:

ServSafe Certification
Current ServSafe certification, or the ability to be certified within the first 6 months of appointment.

The driver’s license requirement only applies to Catering positions.

This is a full-time appointment. The starting annual salary is $51,000 or higher based on qualifications and includes a competitive retirement and benefits package.
Additional Information:
Schedules will be determined at time of offer. The primary schedule for this position typically consists of 5 day, 8 hour shifts per week from 3:00pm-11:30pm that may fall on any day of the week. Schedules may rotate every other weekend.
Operational and work schedules will be closely aligned with the services and customer needs of the unit. As a result, work schedules may be adjusted during specific times of the year, including summer and winter break hours. Schedules will be determined at time of offer. Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand.
