The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since 1946. Job Description
This electrical engineering position at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) focuses on the design, integration, testing, deployment, and support of electrical instrumentation and control systems for the United States Navy: GERALD R. FORD class of aircraft carriers. NNL develops and supports the world’s safest and most advanced nuclear reactor plants. This position deals with shipboard systems that perform essential reactor control functions, demanding the highest degree of quality and reliability. In this position you will gain experience with mission-critical shipboard electrical systems and have a significant impact on the technology that protects our country. You will have direct interaction with the Navy, shipyards, vendors, and customers. You will support the construction of new aircraft carriers as well as the operating fleet. You will maintain and implement improvements to hardware and software system designs for various shipboard control systems, develop and maintain procedures for equipment operation, troubleshoot instrumentation and control system issues, develop and perform equipment tests, perform detailed technical evaluations, and author technical reports. You must balance autonomy and interdependence so you can deliver high-quality technical products. You will have a strong team around you and are expected to seek mentorship from experienced colleagues. Your will have regular verbal and written communications with co-workers, management, and customers.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
BS degree in engineering or Bachelor’s degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience or;
MS degree in engineering or Master’s degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience or;
Currently or previously NPE qualified or CTE/ACRS and one year of EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and one year as SRE
Preferred Skills
Specific coursework and/or work experience in one of the following areas is required (two is preferred): control systems, hardware/software development, integrated reactor plant operations, or microprocessor based equipment.
Coursework or experience with computer programming.

Pay Range
$82,600 – $123,800 annually
