Position: Technician, Formulation

Position Summary
The Formulation Technician is a Salaried Non-Exempt position which contributes to our mission of saving and sustaining lives by weighing and blending raw materials to create IV therapies, premixed drugs, renal therapies and other sterile solutions.
Essential Job Duties
Duties performed on a rotational basis
– Responsible for proper formulation of tanks including weighing, labeling, staging materials with strict adherence to procedures and standardized formulas.
– Inspect, clean and re-palletize raw materials received from the warehouse
– Take ownership of Mixing and Tank Rooms to ensure adherence to cGMPs.
– Perform routine preventative maintenance in the Mixing Complex
– Promotes a culture of safety in the area
– Investigate, identify, and correct or escalate any inefficiency’s or quality concerns for Mixing equipment and processes.
– Generate and implement continuous improvement activities to the Mixing area and process
– Using a powered industrial truck (PIT), transport staged materials to the assigned mixing tank
– Pump or manually blend raw materials into a chemical solution mixing tank
Duties performed on a continual or intermittent basis
– Perform and document scheduled cleaning activities which include using a ladder and safety harness to climb into mixing tanks in order to clean the inside of the vessel
– Navigate the computerized Production Operating Management System (POMS) to access, manage and document batch information throughout the entire mixing process
– Obtain samples & perform scheduled quality checks
– Notify the supervisor and take appropriate action if any safety, quality, mechanical or discrepancy issues occur
– Learn, understand and apply rigorous quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
– Sustain a clean and safe work area using 6S principles
Work Environment
– In a Class I Controlled Environment which includes the following dress/gowning requirements: safety glasses, ear plugs, jumpsuit, hood, hairnet, beard cover, gloves, safety shoes, isolation mask and boots (additional PPE required when cleaning)
– Intermittent exposure to elevated levels of noise
– Involves working around moving equipment
– Requires the ability to work in a confined space
– Occasionally work with/around extremely hot water and steam
– Handles corrosive chemical solutions, powders and pharmaceutical drugs requiring special garb and equipment
– Requires occasionally working with chemical cleaners and disinfectants
Required Qualifications
– High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
– Must be at least 18 years of age
– Must have basic English written and oral communication skills adequate to communicate with other team members.
– Understand verbal and written safety and quality instructions and read and comprehend written work instructions including words and drawings.
– Must be able to perform basic mathematics
– Possess or be able to obtain PIT Operator Certification
– Have basic computer skills
Preferred Experience
– One year of manufacturing experience preferred
– CRC (Career Readiness Certification) at the Silver level
Physical Requirements
– Requires continuous firm grasping and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds
– Lifting and carrying on average up to 50 pounds continuously and up to 75 pounds occasionally throughout the shift
– Must be able to pass the PIT physical
– Normal visual acuity and the ability to distinguish color are necessary
– Occasionally specialized physicals are required when working with certain drug codes
– Must be able to bend/stoop, squat, climb, reach above shoulder level, twist at the neck and twist at the waist frequently throughout the shift and balance and reach at or below shoulder level continuously throughout the shift
We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. To that end, this position has a base salary range of $33,000 to $76,000. The above range represents the expected base salary range for this position. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in the role, business line, and geographic/office location.
