Position Description
Responsible for the recruitment, training and management of fosters to assist in the efficient running of foster and rescue operations, as well as to provide off-site assistance. This position will also prepare, participate and host events for animal welfare in the community and build partnerships on a local, state, and national level.

Typical Duties

  • Maintains rescue and foster records and coordinates programs schedules, liaises with community to attract outreach potential, and serves as liaison for community partners and the public at special events.
  • Organizes and conducts the orientation and training of fosters, making sure all aspects of the training are in accordance with the organization’s mission and philosophy. Updates training materials and programs as needed and alerts fosters to relevant education opportunities.
  • Develops and implements strategies to recruit, orient, and monitor fosters, resource, and rescue agencies. Responds to inquiries regarding programing within the division. Interviews and screens potential volunteers, fosters, and rescues.
  • Maintains records noting special skills and interests of individuals or agencies. Records foster duties and hours donated and notes incidents and injuries. Prepares operational reports on program activities. Prepares budget reports as directed by supervisors.
  • Select shelter animals for foster/rescue program and coordinate their transfer, transport, ongoing care and disposition.
  • Develops methods to maximize the transfer of eligible animals to rescue organizations.
  • Contribute to the programs and services that support the shelter’s live outcome goals.
  • Manages fosters in performance of duties, providing them continuous feedback, coaching and special guidance when requested or required. Conducts recognition programs to honor volunteers and fosters. Assists in resolving disputes and severs the relationship with fosters, volunteers and rescue agencies.
  • Coordinates Special Events and volunteer needs for those events.
  • Identifies and enlists support from external sponsors, businesses and/organizations to help in achieving departmental goals.
  • Confers with facility staff concerning administration of various programs and with administrators of other organizations to keep abreast of innovative foster/rescue management techniques.
  • Liaises with community organizations and businesses to promote the organization’s mission and expand the potential volunteer base.
  • Fulfills speaking engagements and prepares media releases when appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would prepare the incumbent to perform the duties of the position at the appropriate level.
Employee must have skill in oral and written communication and the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
Employees would typically have a Bachelor’s Degree and some experience in program management, development, or related work.

Valid driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.

Working Environment/Physical Demands: Must receive pre-exposure rabies vaccinations. The work environment and conditions vary with assignment. The work may require some walking, bending, carrying of light to medium weight items, etc. Need to be able lift up to 50lbs. Employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as goggles, gloves, earplugs, etc.
