This position is a part-time and on as needed basis.

This is a position providing educational support group services to families and youth.
Work involves group facilitating with families of youth ages 7-17 who have had contact with the Juvenile Justice System or are at-risk of having contact with the Juvenile Justice System. Coordinates weekly group sessions in order to educate the youth and families in the areas of substance abuse, decision-making skills, logical consequences, and parenting. Maintains a variety of related records and prepares activity reports.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
Instructions in the nature of policy directives and available funding are received from the Family Resource Center FCCA and Family Resource Center OA, but considerable independent judgment must be exercised in initiating and carrying out assignments.
Instructions in the nature of treatment plans are received from the Case Managers and Youth Specialists.
Minimum qualifications & Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree in human service area such as psychology, social work, counseling and guidance related field; and a minimum of 6 months experience working directly with youth and families; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
  • Considerable knowledge of effective group processes.
  • Considerable knowledge of a variety of prevention/social service/ psychological activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and with understanding with youth, their families, and any other persons interested in the program.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with recreational staff members, civic groups, other departments/agencies and employees.

Supplemental information

  • Conduct weekly group sessions with families in the community who have a child age 7-17 and provide support and education on substance abuse, decision-making skills, logical consequences, and parenting skills.
  • Prepare progress notes for each group attendee.
  • Provide direction and guidance to co-facilitators.
  • Individual is required to maintain a flexible schedule in order to complete the requirements of the job.
  • Individual may be required to obtain a State of Michigan chauffer’s license in order to operate City vehicles providing transportation for youth participating in Family Resource Center programs. Individuals required to operate city vehicles must maintain a driving record in compliance with ordinance 38.03 section (I) Operation of motor vehicles.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
