Pay Range

$85,800 – $106,536 Annually

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We have an opening for a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Liaison & Reference Specialist within the Knowledge Management program. You will be responsible for the Strategic Deterrence directorate’s FOIA response process, including fulfilling requests, ensuring appropriate review, and tracking requests through the response lifecycle. Additionally, you will spend time working with fellow reference specialists and information management technicians to provide access to science & engineering resources to a variety of patrons. You will assist in tasks related to document uploading, metadata generation, content management, and reference assistance. You must demonstrate the ability to work well as part of a team, and to maintain a high standard of quality and attention to detail in multiple aspects of your work. This position is in the Strategic Deterrence (SD) directorate.

In this role, you will

  • Facilitate the SD FOIA response process, including reasonable search & retrieval of responsive materials and ensuring appropriate directorate review.
  • Track FOIA requests from reception to delivery, and report on time spent on each request.
  • Help to acquire, organize, preserve, and catalog the permanent and historically significant records of the Laboratory and the Weapons Program.
  • Add metadata to PDF files of scanned documents, and index that metadata into the appropriate system.
  • Respond to requests for documents or related information from internal and external requestors (outside of the FOIA domain).
  • Track boxes are sent to and requested from Records Management storage.
  • Liaise between document creators and IT developers to ensure files are uploaded appropriately to the Document Management System (DMS).
  • Recognize and support plans to promote and foster a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability within the workplace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Knowledge of basic archival principles and processes.
  • Knowledge of basic information security principles and the US FOIA mandate.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop 2021 or later, Adobe Acrobat DC., and FileMaker Pro.
  • Experience working with customers to identify and address research questions.
  • Demonstrated ability/commitment to promote and value inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability principles in the workplace.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Bachelor’s degree in library science, History, Political Science, or related degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
