Position Summary:
This position services the receipt, storage, inventorying, and distribution of perishable and non-perishable items used by the Academy of Culinary Arts program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists the Food Buyer Manager with the management and completion of ChefTec documents
- Receives vendor deliveries against the purchase order and verifies the order against the vendor packing slip
- Inspects deliveries for wholesomeness and confirming quantities by weight or count
- Notes any invoice discrepancies in price or quantity and notifies the Food Buyer Manager
- Tags meat, fish and poultry with dates and stock on a first-in/first-out basis, placing all perishable items, in a refrigerator or freezer as soon as possible
- Transfers bulk perishable and non-perishable to refrigerator, freezer, shelf or cart for transfer to the kitchens
- Applies accurate pricing to ingredients for stocking
- Performs accurate breakdowns of bulk ingredients as required, including the handling and repackaging of meats, fish, produce and dry items
- Fills requisitions for chef educators with accurate counts or weights for each ingredient and applies accurate pricing
- Maintains an efficient, safe and clean work environment
- Maintains all purchase records, and an inventory of office supplies
- Generates payment requests and enters purchase requisitions for equipment and supplies as directed
- Assists with inventories at the end of the calendar year and academic year
- Responsible for group reservations and catering sales in Careme’s Restaurant
- Assists with the operation of Strudels Bake Shop
- Oversees work-study student-employees in the Perishable Storeroom and Strudels Bake Shop
- Performs related duties as assigned
Typical Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Business/Accounting training a plus
Experience:
- Experience working with food products including but not limited to meats/poultry, fish, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, condiments, etc
Competencies and Skills:
- Must be able to perform frequent heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds and work in a chilled environment
- Knowledge of safely handling various food products
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of office and bookkeeping procedures preferred
- ServSafe certification a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged period of standing
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
