Job Description Summary
Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a full-time faculty member in Architecture/ Construction Technology in the School of Business, Entrepreneurship and Professional Development.

The ideal candidate will have a background in architecture and construction technologies and will coordinate the construction and civil pathways in the Department of Building Science.
The instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation (develop curricula and instructional material; prepare course syllabi), presentation, program and course assessment activities, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The instructor is responsible for performing assigned teaching duties during the day, evening, or weekend.
Core Competencies and Qualifications

  • Earned Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in Architecture, Construction Management or related field required.
  • Licensure may be required.
  • Minimum 5 years verifiable full-time work experience in a related field required.
  • Additional certification or licensure may be required as appropriate to technology taught in the course.
    • Concrete field-testing technician LEVEL 1 certification preferred.
  • Previous community college teaching experience and curriculum development preferred

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in:

  • The production of construction documentation using multiple software packages, including but not limited to; AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and REVIT
  • The development of architectural presentation drawings using multiple software packages, including but not limited to, Sketchup, Photoshop, REVIT, and ENSCAPE or Lumion.
  • The use of construction management software including but not limited to, Blue Beam and ProCore.
  • The use of both hand and Power tools in a construction environment.
  • General shop and tool maintenance.
  • The use of software in a network environment, use of multiple operating systems and various hardware devices such as cameras, flatbed scanners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting directly to Associate Dean for Business, Entrepreneurship, and Professional Development, and working collaboratively with architecture, construction, civil technology, energy technology and interior design faculty, will:

  • Teach assigned courses In Architecture, Construction, and Civil Technologies
  • Create and maintain electronic syllabi for each course taught.
  • Develops curricula and plan course content and methods of instruction, including textbook selection, and measurable objectives.
  • Maintain department labs and equipment, including acquiring supplies, and making purchase recommendations for department budget.
  • Assists students with assignments, as needed.
  • Maintains excellent record keeping procedures.
  • Advise students concerning course electives and requirements, as well as job placement and transfer opportunities.
  • Participate in all department, division, and college organization meetings.
  • Observes, evaluates, and assess students’ work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement. Determines training needs of students or workers.
  • Create and manage course shell within the content management system used by Henry Ford College – currently Moodle.
  • Administers oral, written, or performance tests to measure progress and to evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Prepare lectures, demonstrations, multiple laboratory activities and teach 15 contact hours per week of apprenticeship related courses in multiple content areas and provide a minimum of 5 office hours per week for consultation with students.
  • Engage in on-going professional development in the subject area and in the teaching/learning process.
  • Participate in shared governance by serving on Department, School of BEPD, College-wide committees.
  • Uphold the best scholarly and ethical standards of the discipline.
  • Foster honest academic conduct and ensure that evaluations of students reflect each student’s performance.
  • Demonstrate respect for students as individuals and foster a respectful atmosphere in the classroom or an online learning environment.
  • Teach course(s) in accordance with the description in the Course Master and in accordance with Department and/or standardized course policies. It is recognized that the methods, procedures, and interpretations of various instructors may differ.
  • Be informed of the Colleges support services for students and recommend their use, when advisable.
  • Improve understanding and expertise in the field by regularly attending workshops, classes, conferences and training sessions in electronics and engineering.
  • Perform program and course assessment which helps the program determine how the curriculum is contributing to the learning and development of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
