Gardner, Container Specialist Job Description
Wage: $13-$16.00/hour DOE
Part Time: Summer hours: Mon-Fri 6am-11am. Fall and Winder hours: 7am-12pm. Some Saturdays may be required.
Summary: Do you enjoy working outside and with your hands? Would you like to be a part of collaborative, supportive, and fun team that brings the wonders of the natural world to life? Then we would love you on our team!
Responsibilities:
- Maintain containers and hanging baskets in the Ashton Gardens. This includes watering, fertilizing, deadheading, planting new containers, and moving containers in and out of the garden.
- Help Gardeners fertilize annual flower beds
- General gardening, weeding, flower deadheading, planting, pruning, cultivating and topdressing of flower and shrub beds.
- Seasonal flower planting and removal along with pruning of perennials and ornamental grasses
- Keep garden beautiful by sweeping paths, collecting and emptying garbage, and raking
- Install holiday lights
- Exempify Thanksgiving Point’s Mission and Values
- Other tasks as assigned by Garden supervisor.
Requirements:
- Must be able to identify plant watering needs
- Able to mix fertilizers according to directions, and able to recognize insects and diseases on plant material.
- Self motivated and able to work independently
- Hard working with the ability to understand and carry out directions
- Manages time effectively and is productive without direct supervision
- Able to work in all types of weather conditions
- Has an eye for detail with specific attention to gardening standards
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must pass a background checkA
