PCSI is looking for a General Clerk II to join the team at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth! General Clerks support the Environmental Services (EVS) team and Total Facilities Management team by processing and tracking work orders given by the customer and hospital staff. This includes maintaining records and files, performing data entry, and keeping up written and verbal communication with the team.
The General Clerk works on-site at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA and reports to the evening shift’s Housekeeping Manager. Typical hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 3:30pm-12:00am.
Base Pay: $17.34/hr

What You’ll Do as a General Clerk:
- Maintains EVS operations records, logs and files.
- Manages work control for EVS service requests, bed making, discharges and other work as dictated by the customer and hospital staff.
- Communicates facility related work requests to the responsible activity (e.g. PCSI Total Facilities Management Team, NMCP Facilities Management Team) and documents these work requests for tracking purposes.
- Creates PCSI work requests in the computerized quality control system (e.g. Orange QC).
- Communicates customer directed work assignments to EVS Supervisors and Technicians.
- Responds to routine requests/emails.
- Performs daily data entry.
- Follows established procedures or steps to process paperwork.
- Performs other tasks as directed by supervisor.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful:
- High school diploma or GED Certificate.
- Two years verifiable data entry level computer experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must demonstrate accuracy and speed in work. Typing speed of 50-60 wpm.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and SharePoint).
- Ability to effectively read, write and speak English.
- Ability to follow directions, understands work rules and procedures and accepts constructive criticism.
- Ability to interact harmoniously with co-workers, hospital staff and visitors
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must have the hand/eye coordination necessary to operate office business equipment (calculator, phone, fax, photocopier, etc.), a personal computer and filing cabinet.
- Hearing and speech sufficient to verbally communicate in person and on the telephone.
- Mobility to frequently alternate between sitting, standing and moving about the facility.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to pass criminal and drug screening.
- Ability to be exposed to various dirt, debris, and odors. Subject to hazards associated with working in a health care environment that may cause personal harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust, odors and elevated noise levels.
- Ability to work any time or day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
- If required, ability to obtain and maintain security clearance and base access to assigned site(s).
