General Clerk III – Naval Medical Center Portsmouth

PCSI is looking for a General Clerk III to join the team at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. The General Clerks provide administrative support with receiving calls, processing documents, and maintaining complex filing systems. The ideal candidate for this role will be a self-starter with attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple assignments.

This position reports to the Subcontracts Manager and is based in Portsmouth, VA. Typical hours are Mon-Fri, 7:30am-4:00pm.

Base Pay: $19.39/hr

What You’ll Do as a General Clerk:

  • Ensure year end transfer of files storage is accurately documented according to the records management policy.
  • Prepare, manage and submit all required contractual reports to client.
  • Verify statistical reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and track work performance metrics tied to contract performance standards and company policies and procedures.
  • Receive, respond and document incoming calls as well as complaints received.
  • Serve as a back-up to the Production Control Clerk and Data Entry Operator II in periods of absence.
  • Assist departments with special projects as needed.
  • Process and distribute confidential and sensitive documents.
  • Establish and maintain complex filling systems.
  • Support other departments such as Accounting and Rehabilitation to aid personnel in administrative functions.
  • Process documents to update and maintain employee files and records.
  • Respond to written and verbal inquiries from management and external sources to provide information, facilitate communication among departments, and complete administrative tasks.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by supervisor.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior experience working in office administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must demonstrate accuracy and speed in work. Typing speed of 50-60 wpm.
  • Requires intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and PC functions.
  • Maximo experience preferred.

  • Must be able to assist and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization both in oral and written format.
  • Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Ability to follow directions, understands work rules and procedures and accepts constructive criticism.
  • Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Ability to comply and interpret company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass criminal, drug, and driving screening.
  • Possess valid driver’s license and maintain good driving record.
  • Ability to climb, bend, squat, push, lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds; prolong sitting up to 90%.
  • If requires, ability to obtain and maintain security clearance and base access to assigned site(s).
