Director of Enterprise Networking

Position Description

As a Director of Enterprise Networking, you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities during specific timeframes:

  • First 30 days
    • Focus on learning about the company and your role
    • Complete all company and department-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs) and trainings
    • Learn about your team structure and the individuals who are part of it
    • Discover the systems that are used in the company
    • Understand the processes that the company follows
  • Within 60 days
    • Focus on contributing to the company’s overall mission and departmental objectives
    • Develop a good understanding of the people, systems, and processes
    • Identify gaps in the current processes and systems
    • Recommend solutions to remediate the identified gaps
    • Suggest process improvements to optimize efficiency
    • Explore growth and training opportunities for the team
    • Propose networking hardware and software upgrades to enhance productivity
  • Before the end of 90 days
    • Use your knowledge and experience gained in the first 60 days to lead the Enterprise Networking team.
    • Employ appropriate and effective leadership strategies.
    • Leverage your newfound expertise to guide the team towards success.
    • Apply the lessons learned in the initial period to improve team performance.
    • Continuously assess and adjust your approach to ensure optimal results.
  • Ongoing
    • Lead and manage the Enterprise Networking team to ensure timely provision of appropriate network services to customers
    • Possess strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively within the Enterprise Infrastructure team and cross-functional groups, such as Project Management, Sales, and Operations
    • Demonstrate the ability to explain networking solutions clearly and concisely during conversations with customers, colleagues, and partners
    • Address multiple simultaneous requests calmly and prioritizing work in a fast-paced environment
    • Collaborate with leadership to create a roadmap for our global network architecture, capacity, and performance, ensuring customers’ needs are met today and in the future
    • Develop roadmaps and plans to help the organization achieve its strategic goals and objectives
    • Responsible for managing the selection, development of people, resources, and budgets required to perform the functions of the department
    • Work with leadership to create, edit, and implement company policies related to the department
    • Assign duties and give work direction to department personnel
    • Provide technical suggestions on modifications to documentation, product performance, and failure analysis
    • Monitor work procedures, work schedules, and expedite workflow
    • Monitor service calls and tickets to observe team member demeanor, technical accuracy, and conformity to company policies
    • Manage after-hours support, staffing, and operation, ensuring calls are appropriately documented and followed up during normal working hours
    • Train personnel on all procedures and processes related to the Enterprise Network
    • Help design and implement the overall strategic direction for the architecture, platforms, and common network services that run across our production data centers and public cloud
    • Maintain relationships with key vendors to understand their product roadmap and lifecycles to seamlessly guide our technology stack into the future
    • Evaluate new and emerging technology and create roadmaps for how we incorporate them to further evolve our public and private cloud systems
    • Ensure seamless experiences for network services between private and public cloud
    • Work with a security and compliance-first mindset to ensure programs around threat management and vulnerability management are ingrained in our networking systems

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • More than 10 years of experience in Information Technology (IT) or related field, or equivalent
  • More than seven years of hands-on work within large-scale networking environments
  • More than five years of experience in Networking or IT management for large agile teams
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and people management
  • Strong understanding of Networking fundamentals and demonstrated experience in supporting very large-scale network environments
  • Proficiency in using call and ticketing software
  • Intimate familiarity with Cisco-based solutions, including but not limited to Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN), Identity Services Engine (ISE), Digital Network Architecture (DNA) Center, FirePower, Stealthwatch, SecureX, and Umbrella
  • Moderate level understanding of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) routing and switching and network design best practices
  • Familiarity with Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), network security, switching topologies, and cloud networking at a moderate level
  • Experience in writing technical specifications
  • Interface with business areas and translate business needs into technology-based solutions effectively
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Stay up-to-date with new technological and/or procedural developments and demonstrate expertise with software tools, as well as evaluate solutions
  • Handle uncertainty and ambiguity
  • Strong leadership, planning, and project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

The following skills and attributes are preferred:

  • Knowledge of on-premises and cloud-connected enterprise infrastructure systems including hyper-converged systems, servers, routers, physical and software-defined switches, firewalls, web and SPAM filters, load balancers, server, and desktop virtualization, and cloud computing
  • Knowledge of on-premises and cloud-connected enterprise infrastructure software, such as operational systems, such as Microsoft Windows and Linux/UNIX, patch management, virus protection, Microsoft Office platforms, including SharePoint and Teams, Active Directory and Azure Active Directory, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name System (DNS), Microsoft Exchange, Identity management (ID) systems, and various database platforms, such as Microsoft SQL, Oracle, and Postgress
  • Knowledge of server and network security including schemes, such as role- or rule-based Access Control Lists (ACLs), logical and physical level security, anti-virus endpoint protection, and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption and certificates.
  • Experience using ServiceNow

Benefits

The base compensation range for this role is $100000 – $160000 / year for the position in California. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries in Californiabased on the date of this job posting.
