DESCRIPTION

The Graduate and Family Housing division consists of approximately 100 buildings encompassing 3,299 apartments consisting of 2.3M gross square feet of living and support space for over 6,000 residents and their related family members.

Full Responsibility for multiple housing communities handling in excess of $55 million dollars annually.

Within each of these programs the General Manager is responsible for the following:

  • The development and monitoring of a strategic plan for each assigned area.
  • The development of long and short-range plans for meeting strategic plan for each assigned area.
  • The development of an annual budget and ensuring that all budgets are met for each assigned area.
  • The on-going day to day management of the assigned programs.
  • The participation on the management team for all scheduled major renovation projects ensuring all needs are identified and the defined scope of work is completed on time.
  • The ensuring of outstanding customer service through the UC San Diego Principles of Community and the Balanced Scorecard concepts to over 6,000 UC San Diego students and related family members.

Housing Dining Hospitality (HDH) is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 8 divisions, with over 900 career employees, 1,000 to 1,200 student employees and an annual operating budget greater than $200 million. HDH provides housing for approximately 18,000 undergraduates, grad students, faculty, staff and their families in over 400 buildings covering over 8 million sq. ft. HDH is in the midst of implementing an aggressive building plan which added 10,000 new beds in the next 10 years and will almost double our square footage by 2032

Currently, HDH houses 42% of UCSD’s enrolled students with a goal of housing 65% by 2032. HDH provides maintenance and repair, contract meals/meal plan management, as well as retail food service, conference services and catering services to residents, students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Solid knowledge of the organization’s processes, protocols and procedures with a focus on budget, account and fund management and / or personnel management within labor contract(s) and personnel policy.
  • Solid knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll.
  • Demonstrated skills in employee supervision and HR administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to analyze information regarding property management, occupancy factors, and operating budgets.
  • Ability to create complex reports; ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources.
  • Solid interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling to effectively motivate others.
  • Solid skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify resolutions.
  • Solid organizational and customer service skills to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge and ability to write concise, logical, and grammatically correct analytical reports including budget variances; labor requirements and cost projections; and building maintenance and repair projects.
  • Proven ability to exercise tact, mature judgment, confidentiality, diplomacy and flexibility to promote and maintain positive working relationships and job effectiveness; proven ability to work independently, make independent judgments, and maintain absolute confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and evaluate procedures; ability to plan and handle logistics for programs and special projects.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in organizational development activities including skills in assessing organizational issues and concerns, providing feed back on assessment data, developing action plans based on assessment data, and determining the success of actions taken.
  • Strong creative and analytical skills to provide solutions that address issues within all functional areas of responsibility including the ability to anticipate problems
  • Demonstrated skill to conceptualize and develop procedures based on general guidelines and direction.
  • Experiential knowledge in budget development, planning and financial management or an equivalent combination of education and strong demonstrated management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in the management and supervision of a multi-functional staff comprised of administrative, technical, and building maintenance worker personnel

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License, good driving record and participate in the DMV pull program to drive University vehicles.
  • Subject to irregular hours, emergency call-back.
  • Required to use radio/phone during business hours.
  • Offer contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $63,400 – $142,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.36 – $68.39

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
