As a part of our Resilience GBA we work to protect our natural environment and water resources, while powering our world for future generations. Around the world, we’re feeling the effects climate change, rapid urbanization, loss of biodiversity. The rate at which we’re seeing large-scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires, is becoming more frequent. We are here to protect our natural environment and water resources, while powering our world for future generations.
Our Design & Engineering Job Family gives the opportunity tocreate some of the world’s most iconic and ground-breaking structures and spaces that transform the world around us, from making journeys easier to opening up public places that bring people together.
This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring engineer to join our nationally recognized technical staff and utilize their expertise and knowledge of flood control infrastructure design & construction to explore a career in water resources engineering.
Role accountabilities:
The candidate can expect to participate in activities ranging from concept level planning to the preparation of detailed engineering designs and construction specifications for heavy civil infrastructure projects. Project examples may include demolition, rehabilitation, and/or new construction of levees, floodwalls, waterways, reservoirs, locks, dams, drainage systems, and roadways. The Geotechnical Engineer position will be focused on data evaluation of instrumentation systems at levees, spillways, outlet works, and slopes, geotechnical analyses for levees, and other hydraulic structures, including but not limited to seepage, slope stability and settlement analysis, and preparing technical reports.
This role will support licensed engineers who are responsible for preparing engineering reports, design calculations, design drawings, and contract specifications in accordance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers design publications, similar guidelines from other federal and/or state agencies or international equivalents and overseeing the preparation of construction quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates. The candidate will have an opportunity to gain technical proficiency in at least one of the following geotechnical design tools with the intent of becoming proficient in both: with stability and seepage programs (GeoStudio’s SlopeW and SeepW), structural Ensoft Programs, and MS Office applications.
Finally, the Geotechnical Engineer plays an important role on our engineering teams to produce well thought-out designs and quality drawing packages needed to control project construction and deliver critical solutions for our clients. With this in mind, the Geotechnical Engineer must develop a solid awareness of the interconnections of the systems being designed in order to help the team manage the effects of design development and impacts of change. The candidate can expect to be mentored by our excellent technical staff to cultivate these insights while developing the knowledge and skillsets that will be needed for a successful career in water resources engineering. Life-long learning and continuing professional development is fostered through in-house knowledge management and educational experiences, access to a formal mentoring program, support of pursuing various industry-valued credentials and certifications, and access to a tuition reimbursement program for graduate-level studies.
