Position

Under the direction collaboration with the program’s Recreation Coordinator, this position will conduct practices, assist coaches with game plans and provide knowledge/mechanics of volleyball. This program is designed for girls from 5th through 8th grades and is held at the Jim Porter Recreation Center Gym at Brengle Terrace Park.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Typical days/hours are: Monday – Thursday 3:45pm to 7:15pm
  • Season: Starts, August 21, 2023, and concludes on November 16, 2023

NOTE: This position is a part time, temporary and does not include medical benefits.

Examples of Essential Functions

This position will assist with the coordination and responsibility of running the City’s Girls Volleyball program for the season. Trains, schedules, supervises, disciplines, and evaluates part – time staff and volunteers. Recruits sports specialists and outside speakers for the program. Promotes special activities through advertising and marketing. Requests purchases of program supplies and equipment. Keeps records of attendance, accidents, incidents, and does evaluations of programs. Prepares and monitors program budget. Makes written reports to the Recreation Coordinator when necessary. Makes recommendations for improving existing programs. Recommends new and innovative programs when appropriate. Plans and conducts program in such a manner that program quality remains high as demonstrated by program evaluation. Maintains open and positive communication with parents and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education, experience, training and other qualifications where the incumbent can perform the essential functions are qualifying.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be over the age of 21 and have a basic understanding/comprehension of the rules of volleyball.

The employee may have to move up to 50 lbs. and transport up to 20 lbs. objects frequently (depending on position). Must be able to work a flexible schedule; assignments including early mornings, weekends, holidays, special events and split shifts. Employees must also wear standard work apparel as prescribed by the Recreation and Community Services Department.

SELECTION PROCESS:

VACATION: 80 Hrs. – 1-5 years of continuous service
120 Hrs. – 6-10 years
144 Hrs. – 11-15 years
160 Hrs. – 16-19 years
169 Hrs. – 20+ years
Hours are pro-rated for part-time employees.

INSURANCE: Excellent benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance programs. A portion of the employee’s and dependent’s premiums are paid by the City.

HOLIDAYS: Full time employees working a flex schedule are entitled to 99 hours of holiday leave per fiscal year. Full time employees working a traditional schedule are entitled to 96 hours of holiday leave per fiscal year. Hours are pro-rated for part-time employees.

WORKERS’ The City provides Workers’ Compensation Insurance to all employees.
COMPENSATION:

SICK LEAVE: 96 hours per year for full-time employees, pro-rated for part-time positions.

TUITION REIMBURSEMENT: The City’s Tuition Reimbursement Plan can assist employees in paying the cost of books and tuition for pre-approved classes which relate to their job.

RETIREMENT: Depending on eligibility, based on CalPERS criteria, new employees will be provided the 3% @ 60 Plan or newly established 2% @ 62 Plan. Employees currently contribute the entire employee contribution amount of 8%..

The City does not participate in Social Security, but employees must be enrolled in the Medicare portion.

Actual benefits will depend on date of hire and may differ from the information listed. Part-time employee benefits may be prorated.
