The City of Rochester, Minnesota (pop. 115,000+) Park and Recreation Department provides a variety of leisure time opportunities for people to enjoy and manages more than 3500 acres of park land including 4 golf courses, over 100 individual parks and 85 miles of paved trails.

Nature of Work
The Golf Assistant works closely with the Director of Parks & Recreation and Golf Pros to support the operations of the assigned golf course. This is a limited term position that oversees and assists with the day-to-day operation of the Golf Pro Shop, scheduling tee-times, collecting appropriate fees for facility usage, cash handling and general record keeping. Duties also include starting golfers and monitoring the pace of play on the course. Depending on location this person may also manage the First Tee Program, including registration, scheduling and implementation of programming.
A successful candidate must be able to interact with the public in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.
Work Schedule:
Work schedules vary and include weekends and early morning/evening hours.
Pay Rate:
$24.54/hour, depending on qualifications/experience.
Limited Term AppointmentThis is a limited-term position that is available until October 31, 2023, and is contingent upon the availability of allocated funds, as well as favorable performance by the incumbent. At the end of this time, the position will be eliminated unless the City elects ongoing continuation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The work below is representative of the scope of work performed within this job classification. Individual job duties will vary based on work assignment.
Customer Service
- Greet guests and provides information on facilities and programs in a manner that will assure the highest possible level of guest service.
- Schedules tee-times and directs players to starting tees.
- Enforces all rules and regulations governing the use of the golf course, golf carts and other golf facilities.
- Assists with golf tournaments, golf leagues and teaching programs.
- Issues golf carts and instructs patrons in their use.
- Assists with the sale of merchandise.
Golf Course Operations
- Open and close golf club house.
- Schedule golf staff, including First Tee Program staff.
- Operates cash register to collect appropriate fees and issues a receipt for each transaction.
- Follows prescribed cash handling and record keeping procedures.
- Clean and wipe carts to ensure that the carts are rentable at all times.
- Maintains the Pro Shop and related areas in a clean, safe and presentable manner.
First Tee Program
- Serve as a representative for the First Team Program, communicating program details and benefits to potential participants.
- Accept student registrations and coordinate scheduling.
- Ensure appropriate staffing is in place to successful run the program.
- Deliver program content.
Performs other duties as assigned or necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
HS Diploma or equivalent AND 3 years of experience performing administrative or customer service work.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience working at a golf course performing golf operations for 5 seasons

Knowledge of: the game of golf and its rules and regulations; golf facilities and equipment; administrative and management practices.
Skill in: providing excellent customer service; communicating with customers both in-person and via telephone; handling cash transactions and the use of simple accounting.
Ability to: deal tactfully with the general public in person and on the phone; and understand and carry out oral and written assignments; handle frequent interruptions; establish effective working relationships; follow instruction and prescribed procedure.
