The Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County, has an opening for a Golf Course Manager at a 9-hole golf course! Under general direction, leads the day-to-day programs and operations of a multifunctional recreational facility including a 9-hole golf course, driving range, practice area, snack bar, and pro shop. Work at this level typically involves the designing, implementation, and management of a wide variety of recreational, sporting, cultural, and revenue-generating programs geared to the needs of a diverse community. Assignments include full responsibility for the operation of a facility, including building maintenance, program administration, budget management, and staff supervision. Job assignments require the regular exercise of independent judgment and performance of duties within very general policy guidelines. Managers at this level are required to develop successful business strategies and methodologies to achieve optimum facility operations. The hiring range for this position will be $55,958 – midpoint of the advertised salary range and will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and education.

- Leads a multi-functional recreational facility
- Ensures the safety and security of buildings, employees, and patrons
- Supervises building utilities to ensure accurate operations
- Supervise, hire, train, counsel, and evaluate staff with diverse roles and responsibilities
- Establish, supervise, and implement effective work schedules
- Effectively interpret and communicate Commission policy and procedures to employees
- Provide a team management environment by coordinating weekly, monthly, and quarterly staff and safety meetings
- Emphasize the importance of customer service with staff members to ensure patrons are greeted and treated in a pleasant and professional manner
- Ensure all print and electronic media like brochures, flyers, ads, and electronic posts are accurate, current, and posted
- Ensure facilities are opened and closed properly
- Administer, and oversee an effective tee time and point of sale (POS) system
- Prepare, and send effective correspondence as required on time to employees and the community
- Properly and effectively recycle Commission waste, including paper goods, plastics, glass, batteries, and other recyclable products
- Monitor expenses and revenues with special focus and emphasis on driving revenue and controlling bottom-line expenditures
- Provide accurate annual and monthly budget submissions as required and requested
- Maintain and store accurate financial records to assure compliance with audit and divisional needs
- Monitor the completion and timely submission of timecards, petty cash, purchase orders and check requests to ensure compliance

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree or four years experience in one of the following fields: parks, recreation, education, business administration, physical education, communication, leisure services, or in area of required specialty; and
2. Three years of progressive professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, education, business administration, physical education, communication, leisure services, or area of required specialty, including one year as a facility manager, program coordinator or supervisor; or
3. An equivalent combination of education and experience; and,
4. A valid operating license (i.e. county pool operator’s license, child care license, etc.) where appropriate.
5. A valid driver’s license may be required.

Eligibility
You have 45 days from your hire date to elect your benefits. Your coverage begins on the first of the month following receipt of your enrollment forms and required documentation.
