General Statement of Duties
Forsyth County Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for a qualified Golf Course Superintendent to lead the golf maintenance operation at Tanglewood Park. Candidates must have advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices for cool and warm season turfgrasses.

This position is responsible for all maintenance aspects of the golf properties at Tanglewood Park. The Golf Course Supervisor is required to supervise golf course maintenance staff, oversee the service and repairs of equipment, orders inventory, prepares budgets, provides professional advice and recommendations, and ensures that safe operating practices are followed.
Distinguishing Features
A successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the characteristics and recommended methods of planting and care of golf course grasses.

Thorough knowledge of the maintenance operations involved in the mowing and watering of greens and fairways.

Working knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions applicable to golf course operations.

Basic skills to make minor repairs and adjustments to mowers and equipment.

Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of others.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions and to interpret sketches and penciled layouts.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or GED and six years relevant experience, including two years supervisory experience.

Prefer Associate degree in turf grass management or related field.

Must have a valid N.C. driver’s license and pesticide license.

A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop a comprehensive maintenance plan that incorporates turf care, landscaping, irrigation system, and equipment maintenance. The plan should be used to prioritize and schedule tasks to maintain optimal course conditions throughout the year.

Establishes the maintenance schedule for the golf course, driving ranges and clubhouse grounds.

Plans and supervises proper chemical and fertilizer applications.

Keep track of expenses, purchase necessary supplies, and maintain appropriate inventory levels for chemicals, fertilizers, tools, and other course maintenance supplies within budgetary limitations.

Keeps records of all training, chemical applications, equipment maintenance and pest outbreaks

Hire, train, and supervise a team of golf course maintenance personnel. Assign tasks, coordinate work schedules, and provide guidance to ensure that the team completes maintenance activities efficiently and effectively.

Identify weed, insect and disease problems and formulate a plan of action.

Oversee the maintenance, repair, and storage of all golf course maintenance equipment. Create a preventative maintenance schedule to keep all equipment in optimal operating condition.

Coordinates maintenance activities with the golf operations staff

Frequently inspects golf properties to evaluate how well standards are being achieved.

Identify areas of the course that require improvement and develop plans for renovation or enhancement projects.
