Position Information
Under the guidance of the Golf Player Development Coordinator, the Golf Instructor – Level 1 will assume the role of a golf instructor and program facilitator for Meadow Park Golf Course group programming. The golf programming operates year-round with scheduled breaks. This role involves collaborating with various community partners such as The First Tee of South Puget Sound, Tacoma School District, Club B and Beyond the Bell after school programs. This position also requires proficiency in operating a shuttle van to transport participants for golf programs and activities.

The Golf Player Development Team is comprised of dedicated and skilled individuals committed to delivering engaging and impactful community-based golf programs to the youth and adults of Tacoma. These programs promote a love for golf, healthy lifestyles, individual responsibility, competition, and sportsmanship. Activities range from after-school programing, youth golf camps, youth golf classes, youth PGA Jr League, adult golf classes and adaptive golf classes.

  • Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.

Essential Duties

  • Provide high-quality golf instruction to both youth and adult group programming that aligns with program objectives.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with families regarding schedules and access to golf course facilities.
  • Maintain a welcoming atmosphere and oversee check-in/out procedures for youth programming.
  • Assist with the setup of golf camps and classes.
  • Drive a shuttle van as needed to transport youth participants to golf course.
  • Perform visual inspections and operational checks on shuttle van, and report any issues with the shuttle van to the Golf Player Development Coordinator
  • De-escalate situations in a professional manner to ensure program safety, providing guidance and instruction as needed to support enrolled youth.
  • Participate in staff training sessions when available.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to interact professionally with diverse groups, including colleagues, clients, and community members.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to operate a shuttle van safely and responsibly.
  • Basic knowledge of golf equipment and terminology.
  • Prior experience in teaching, coaching, or leading group activities is a plus.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
