JOB PURPOSE
This position is responsible for providing public policy, logistical, and administrative support for the Government Affairs department. The role will coordinate council and committee meetings including developing agendas, securing and coordinating with speakers and managing meeting logistics. The role also provides research, policy analysis and administrative support to the full Chamber policy team. The role includes industry and policy analysis, meeting and event coordination, legislative liaison activities, business recruitment and retention, and investor relations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop industry specific vision, strategy, and program goals for the Chamber of Commerce and Metro Denver EDC as it relates to public policy and government affairs.
- Help lead advocacy, education, and liaison efforts with state and federal elected officials. This includes briefs, stakeholder forums, caucus meetings and general outreach.
- Help develop and build local government affairs strategy, including with Denver City Council, the Denver Mayor’s Office, and other local governments as needed.
- Build and develop relationships with Chamber/EDC members and advise them on key policy issues.
- Conduct legislative research and write legislative summaries.
- Help manage interim projects for the Chamber and EDC and support interim objective and policy projects outside of legislative session.
- Support GA Team throughout legislative session by aiding with formation of meeting agendas, research, meeting set-up, catering, etc.
- Responsible for managing coalition meetings, including securing presenters/speakers, creating and distributing notices and agendas, and follow up, and all meeting logistical preparation.
- Supports EDC staff with research and special events including trade shows, annual meeting, and site selection conference. Assists with other economic development work and events on a as needed basis.
- Coordinate committee/council meetings by researching and securing speakers and managing all other meeting logistics, RSVP tracking/attendance history, audio-visual support, catering coordination, budget, surveys etc. Secure all available sponsorship opportunities for breakfasts, lunches, and annual happy hour event.
- Contribute to the management of Government Affairs event logistics as needed including collaborating with the Events team on venue selection, catering, AV contracts, invitation/signage/program design and printing, tracking event reservations and payments, sponsorship sales, surveys etc. and additional contacts for event. Coordinate event day registration, volunteer management and other duties that arise.
- Update department’s web pages as needed with committee-related materials and information regarding policy and legislative session.
- Work with outside groups as onsite contact for meetings and events. Lead in coordinating meeting and event details as needed.
- Manage other projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in the public policy arena at the state and local level – federal level is a plus.
- Familiar with the Colorado General Assembly rules and procedures.
- Understanding of policy issues that impact the business community and Metro Denver.
- Experience in meeting and group management.
- Must be versatile, flexible, and able to manage numerous constantly changing issues and environments.
- Professional, and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Contribute positively within a strong team environment.
- Build absolute trustworthiness and confidence with department and department’s volunteer members.
- Must project a positive and professional image to Chamber members.
- Strong multi-tasker with ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and accomplish responsibilities.
- Excellent time management and follow-up skills, demonstrating strong attention to detail and accuracy.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Equipment to be used includes a PC based network system with internet and intranet capabilities. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office and related software.

- Professional office environment. Normal work hours at the Chamber are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Chamber building located in downtown Denver. Must occasionally set up early morning meetings (7:00am) and as early as 6:30am on Tuesday during the legislative session, as well as other meetings as necessary.
- May require supervising the work of an intern.
