As a lead for grants administration on The Starbucks Foundation team within the Global Coffee, Social Impact & Sustainability function, you will support key business functions that enable the Foundation to execute its mission and make progress towards established 2030 goals. You will work with a team of partners and cross-functionally to develop workplans, drive operational coordination and ensure that the Foundation grants are executed according to requirements and best practices. In addition, you help ensure philanthropic giving excellence through administrative compliance, financial stewardship and governance, and timely reporting.

As a grants administration lead, you will:

  • Foundation administration: Lead implementation of key Foundation business functions, including accounting, governance, and documentation. Liaise with cross-functional teams to maintain, execute, and revise standard operating procedures, including with accounting, tax and legal functions, and coordinate with external vendors on compliance requirements (e.g., annual charitable registrations). Support Executive Director with board governance, as needed.
  • Grants administration: Coordinate, implement, and maintain a range of projects and activities in support of the life cycle of grants and donations, alongside portfolio managers. Provide guidance on overall grant flow process and technical assistance on specific grant guidelines as needed, while administering select key components of grant cycles (e.g., payment oversight). Support grant implementation in coordination with team members as needed for 2-3 large grant cycles during the year (e.g., Neighborhood Grants, Global Community Impact Grants).
  • Financial management and reporting: Provide budget oversight, analysis and reporting to ensure Foundation grantmaking meets established strategic goals. Support with data collection and reporting that demonstrate the impact of the Foundation.
  • Project management and support: Develop plans to meet established goals for projects, prioritizing workstreams according to timelines and key deadlines, and facilitating collaboration with cross-functional teams. Support other day-to-day administrative tasks in support of the Foundation’s operations.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • 5 years of experience in philanthropy, foundation administration, or corporate social responsibility
  • 5 years of demonstrated experience in project management, including process design, implementation, and analysis, with strong organizational skills, attention to detail and excellent communication skills as core requirements
  • Demonstrated experience with grants management, financial management and data analysis, along with mastery of Excel, PowerPoint, database systems and other collaboration tools
  • Experience across foundation administration responsibilities, including financial statements, audits and annual 990 filings and registrations, preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and inter-dependently with a diverse range of teams, in both remote and face-to-face environments; demonstrated experience influencing others with energy to support team success
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, work with a high level of professional maturity, and aptitude for navigating large, matrixed organizations
  • Experience clearly and concisely synthesizing and reporting on complex and diverse programs for a diverse group of audiences
