Description
The Visual and Performing Arts Division is currently accepting applications for a part-time Graphic Design Instructor.
The teaching assignment will be for Spring 2024.
Examples of Duties
Teach a wide range of beginning to advanced levels Graphic Design, including Typography, Interface and Experience Design, Electronic Publication and Print Design in Online as well as Face to Face and Hybrid formats.
Teach the usage and practice of design within digital design software’s including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe XD, Adobe Animate, as well as HTML tagging, CSS, and JavaScript.
Teach day, some evening, and some weekend courses.
Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions. This would include becoming Distance Education Certified through GCC’s GADER Certification program.
Maintain various course and program records both in accordance with the needs of the Graphic Design program and the expectations of the college.
Maintain regular posted office hours and be accessible to students.
Comply with campus and division policies in performance of duties.
Maintain graphic design industry contacts as well as staying abreast of the changing technologies and issues related to the field of Graphic Design.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s in fine arts, art or art history OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in humanities OR the equivalent.
(NOTE: Master’s in fine arts as used here refers to any master’s degree in the subject-matter of fine arts which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting art and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the “Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film video, photography, creative writing or other non-plastic arts.)
Desirable Qualifications:
M. A. in Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design.
Advanced knowledge of Pre-Press and new interactive technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript toward application within Graphic Design practice as demonstrated by employment history and/or training.
Experience in the Graphic Design field as a working designer as evidenced by employment history.
Teaching experience in beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of Graphic Design in a post-secondary institution.
Expertise and experience teaching digital software classes such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign.
Demonstrated commitment to keeping current in Graphic Design and its changing technologies.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations.
