General Description
Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in providing creative graphic design in support of the Communications and Community Engagement Department and school division. Requires knowledge of school division operations and contact at all levels within the organization. Actions have an impact on the school division and require a narrow margin for error.
The ideal candidate is highly creative and well versed in current design trends. They are detail-oriented and enjoy identifying solutions to communications challenges in ways that are visually compelling. They are team oriented, have strong communication skills and are ready to take on multiple fast-paced projects with a tenacious attitude.
Essential Job Functions
- Designs digital assets to include web pages, newsletters, special event collateral, invitations, email templates, flyers, posters, social media graphics, infographics, environmental signage, etc.
- Serves as the primary point of contact with production vendors, including the division print shop, and ensures quality control for all deliverables
- Develops, establishes, implements and maintains brand identity for the school division, including tone and visual style; providing guidance to division colleagues regarding branding
- Maintains the division-wide style guide to ensure that the school system, in its various channels, maintains a cohesive visual language including a strong, relevant, and consistent brand ecosystem (logos, color palettes, typography, images and content)
- Collaborates to develop concepts around and defines style of assets for programs, campaigns, events, etc.
- Designs basic animation of digital assets with After Effects
- Designs templates and other assets for use on social media
- Completes projects and meets deadlines with little guidance
Qualifications
- Team player and ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with citizens, employees and vendors
- Experience in creative roles with passion and drive to ensure quality at a high level
- Ability to effectively use a computer and applicable software, including Adobe Creative Suite, digital cameras, and other communications related software and web-based applications
- Expertise in graphic design and four-color print production
- Understanding of readability and text guidelines
- Basic photographic skills
- Knowledge and understanding of design concepts and techniques, as well as brand worlds and systems
- Ability to work across a number of creative projects simultaneously while maintaining standards of excellence
- Superior organization and attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Strong interpersonal skills: effective communicator, both written and verbal
- High-level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
- Good problem solving and decision-making skill
- Experience creating and maintaining brand voice across multiple audiences
- Ability to read data and convert information into clear infographics
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office products
Requirements
Education, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of experience preferred.
