Graphic Designer (term-limited)

This is a term-limited position, duration of term is expected to last 5 years.

Salary range is $65k to $150k, with a midpoint of $105k. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under general direction, the Graphic Designer responsibilities include preparing and managing artwork files for customer facing wayfinding signage. Must be able to work collaboratively to produce art work, incorporate direction and feedback and coordinate projects from scoping, concept development to execution and production.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Design from concept to final execution(s).
  • Design, produce and manage art work and art work files to support the agency’s signage program, including customer facing wayfinding signage and general facility signage.
  • Design and produce visual assets for signage, including maps, illustrations and icons.
  • Follow and apply signage standards as directed by the established signage standards guidelines.
  • Provide (some) project management; including client care, development of scope of work, schedule, and preparing files for signage fabricator.
  • Present, provide rationale for and defend design recommendations.
  • Champions and models Sound Transit’s core values and demonstrates values-based behaviors in everyday interactions across the agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Media Production or closely related field and three years of experience in graphic design, including hands-on UI experience; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of design and principles, including color, typography and information hierarchy.
  • Understanding of user experience (UX) principles.
  • Methods and techniques used in the development of graphic presentations, drawing and photo editing.
  • Basic time and project management skills
  • Adobe CC programs, specifically, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Microsoft Office software and applications.
  • Establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with other division and department staff, management, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Signage design/UX principles, signage systems and software such as Adobe XD.
  • Signage fabrication and familiarity of signage materials.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
