Description of Work
Note: Employees in these seasonal positions will work forty (40) hours per week, to perform seasonal work activities for a continuous period not exceeding one-hundred and twenty (120) calendar days.

The Grounds Maintenance Laborer Seasonal under the general direction of the Department Head performs and coordinates assigned work crews in a variety of grounds security, custodial and maintenance activities at various County facilities and grounds under the general supervision of higher level personnel.
Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  1. Must be a high school graduate or have successfully completed the General Education Development Test (GED);
  2. Have two (2) seasons (6 calendar months) of paid work experience in a grounds maintenance or related field which shall include the use and maintenance of department equipment;
  3. Must be at least 18 years of age;
  4. Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license.

Physical Conditions / Work Location

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
A Grounds Maintenance Laborer Seasonal must be in good physical condition such to allow for extensive walking, climbing, pulling and moving objects weighing fifty (50) pounds or more, working in various weather conditions, and ability to perform physical labor.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
An employee in this class performs job duties indoors or outdoors in a variety of weather conditions at County buildings and facilities.

EVALUATION CONTENT
The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
