GROUP EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR – CYCLE

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cycle Instructor will offer quality customer service to our members by teaching safe and functionally challenging classes that promote total fitness development. The position helps to ensure these programs are aligned with the Y’s cause and meets the needs of our members and the community. The Cycle Instructor creates a FUN atmosphere and encourages group interaction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  2. Asks and answer questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
  3. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  4. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
  5. Observes and adjust the approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
  6. Is punctual for all classes. The standard procedure is to arrive 10 minutes early. This allows time to prepare and greet members. Attempts to secure a substitute for all classes and informs the Group Fitness Coordinator of all changes.
  7. Maintains all equipment used in all Group Fitness rooms and assist in keeping all rooms in proper order
  8. Records class participation numbers for each class on the weekly attendance calendar
  9. Fills out Occurrence Reports and immediately report all accidents that occur
  10. Follows YMCA policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Required certifications: CPR, First Aid and AED
  2. Certification in areas of expertise
  3. YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire
  4. At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes is preferred
  5. Minimum age of 21
  6. Able to perform and adhere to safety, cleanliness, and uniform standards
  7. Other job duties as assigned by supervisor

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:

  1. Walk, stand, kneel, and stoop
  2. Maintain continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking
  3. Must be able to lift, pull and move up to 50 pounds
  4. Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  5. Must be physically able to successfully complete required certifications

ACCOUNTABILITY:
Accountable for completion of assigned goals as measured by the number of people served, cause-driven measures, service satisfaction scores, operating results, and supervisor evaluation of assigned duties.
