Position Overview
The Sales Specialist position is responsible for lead generation, relationship building, and selling outdoor education programs to organizations around the state and country. This position will engage group contacts, who are primarily teachers and principals, in helping them to achieve their programmatic goals. In addition, this position will be responsible for generating ideas of how we can increase revenue through programs and facility rentals. As the point of contact for booking and sales between contracted groups and KSS and the Keystone Science School education and Customer Experience team, a high level of collaboration is required.
The job duties of this position are performed personally, in cooperation with your supervisor, and/or in coordination with other staff. Additional work functions and duties may be assigned.
Job Duties
- Direct Sales & Lead Generation
- All responsibilities listed have the overarching goal to meet and exceed all fee for service revenue objectives.
- Establish strong relationships with new and existing customers.
- Understand all aspects of KSS programs and be able to effectively communicate program outcomes and differences no matter the curriculum topic or program location.
- Accurately convey information between the Customer, Education Program team, and Customer Experience team to ensure successful execution of programs and facility rentals.
- Deliver in-person and virtual presentations to current and potential customers.
- Listen to all current and potential customers and be able to present ideas to KSS leadership for new programs.
- Create a plan to increase the number of leads and potential customers as well as revenue.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Customer Experience Team to establish a consistent flow of new leads.
- Represent Keystone Science School at events, trade shows, and conferences.
- Systems & Administration
- Assist in streamlining the systems around sales and flow of information from booking to program execution.
- Work to develop and implement cross marketing strategies within all KSS departments.
- Support the collection and dissemination of outcomes and program participant data and statistics.
- Support the collection of paperwork from our group-based contracts.
- Support the collection of accounts receivable.
- Maintain all information within KSS CRM software including Salesforce, Sage Intacct, and other software.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred of 1 year of experience in sales or marketing which can include direct sales, retail sales, or non-profit development.
- Candidates must be 21 years of age and possess a Colorado driver’s license, meet extensive background check criteria and criteria regarding clearance to drive KSS vehicles.
- CPR and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain.
- Strong work ethic and will work until the job is complete.
- Motivation to contribute positively to the KSS at-large community and the goals of its customers and students.
- Strong command of communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Multi-task efficiently while managing a high-volume workload in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Effectively interact with people of diverse backgrounds and different levels of experience.
- Superior customer service skills, with the ability to be creative and think ‘outside the box’
- Desired computer skills include proficiency with Google products, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and other CRM software.
- Experience working within an “experience” focused industry such as summer camp, resort, or other recreation-based industry is desirable.
- Knowledge of outdoor education and K-12 science education is desirable.
- Comprehension of the Spanish language via written and/or verbal form is desirable.
Work Schedule
This schedule is part-time (~16 hours a week), year-round. The typical work schedule is Monday – Friday between 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. This position may require some weekends and/or evenings to support the needs of the organization.
Work Environment
This position requires the employee to work in close contact with their teammates. The office space is small and the employee must have the ability to stay focused while others are working in close proximity. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but varies seasonally due to programs and staffing on campus. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee while performing the essential functions of this job.
There are occasional needs for travel throughout Colorado for meetings or tabling events, plus annual travel to education-based trade shows.
Salary
The salary range for this position is $22.00 – $26.00 per hour. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, and performance.
