Job Summary:
The Head Cook is responsible to oversee daily food service operations, provide work direction to food service staff, and conduct ordering, preparing and inventory of foods for breakfast and lunch for student, staff and visitors. Provide foods that are tasty and eye appealing, while ensuring food safety, sanitation and customer service. Order, purchase and oversee and assist in the preparation of foods for students with special dietary needs.
Required Qualifications:
Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job:
- Food Safety, food preparation and sanitation practices
- Computer operation and applicable computer programs
- 1-3 years of prior work related experience in quantity food preparation.
Preferred Qualifications: Good communication and customer service skills.
Identify licenses/certification required: Food manager certificate
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are considered representative of the relative nature and level of the work. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- 50% Prepares food according to menu and tested uniform recipes for breakfast/lunch/ala carte (sec. only) each school day. Follow HACCP standards and National School Breakfast/Lunch Program guidelines. Orders all items needed for menu and keeps accurate records as required by state, federal and District regulations
- 15% Oversee food service staff during food preparation and clean-up activities. Provides work direction and attends all district wide food service meetings.
- 10% Perform essential computer and paperwork for daily, weekly and monthly program support. Maintain daily production records. Communicate effectively with supervisor and staff.
- 10% Maintain inventory levels and estimate food requirements when ordering. Perform monthly physical inventory of product and report to Food Service Director.
- 10% Monitor and enforce sanitary standards for the assigned kitchen.
- 5% Oversee food preparation for students with special dietary needs. Attend and participate in meeting for these students and their parents as needed.
- Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as required.
