What Success Looks Like In This Job
The Health Data Visualization Specialist will play a key role in designing, developing, and producing data visualization products to communicate public health information to diverse audiences for Adams County Health Department (ACHD). This role also helps to develop and maintain data collection and deliver tools (web-based, print, and other methods) to support department data collection, creation of interactive/static dashboards, websites, maps, and reports. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public health, data visualization, and experience using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Tableau, and GIS to create impactful and visually engaging products. Examples of Duties for Success
- Assist in the development and implementation of branding/data visualization standards across the Epidemiology and Data Science division at ACHD for all reports, web-applications, websites, and data visualization products
- Design, develop, and produce print and web-based data visualization products that communicate complex public health data to diverse audiences
- Develop ways to incorporate COVID-19 data and surveillance into routine daily health department operations
- Work closely with Adams County Health Department staff to understand data needs and goals
- Analyze and interpret public health data to identify trends, patterns, and insights
- Create interactive dashboards, infographics, and other visualizations to support public health decision-making
- Participate in the development of reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
- Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and best practices in data visualization and public health
- Collaborate with other members of the Epidemiology and Data Science team to ensure high-quality products
- Monitor and evaluate data visualization efforts to assess their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement
- Support data visualization using mapping and other data visualization software including ArcGIS, Tableau, and Smartsheet
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other ACHD employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community
- Adhere to policies and procedures to facilitate standardize work for ACHD’s data team

Qualifications for Success
- Data visualization skills: The candidate must have experience in creating data visualizations that are both impactful and visually engaging. They should be skilled in using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Tableau, and GIS to design, develop, and produce print and web-based data visualization products that communicate complex public health data to diverse audiences.
- Data analysis and statistics: The candidate must have experience with data analysis and statistics to analyze and interpret public health data to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
- Communication and collaboration skills: The successful candidate should have strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with other members of the team, including EDS, internal ACHD staff, and external partners.
- Project management skills: The candidate should have the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Up-to-date with emerging trends and best practices: The candidate should stay up-to-date with emerging trends and best practices in data visualization and public health to ensure their products are relevant and effective.

More Qualifications for Success
Experience:
- 2 years of related work experience in population health epidemiology and/or health data analytics.
Education & Training:
- A Bachelor’s degree received from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public health and/or epidemiology or a related field is required.
- A Master’s of Public Health and/or Health Data Analytics may substitute for all professional experience.
License Or Certificate:
- Must be in possession of valid driver’s license and have access to dependable transportation readily available for business use.
Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWork is primarily conducted indoors with occasional time spent in an outside environment. Incumbent will experience routine exposure to hazards of a typical office environment. Requires travel between Adams County offices and to locations in the surrounding community for investigations and meetings. May be required to work outside regular hours to attend meetings or events.
- In-person work time is required at the direction of the direct supervisor.
- Occasional moderate lifting and carrying objects up to 15 pounds.
- Occasional use of automobile, usually no more than one hour at a time.
- Requires sufficient hearing and speech ability to communicate verbally in response to inquiries, to conduct needs assessments and evaluations, and to speak to groups of people in presentations.
- Requires sufficient writing ability to fluidly and accurately communicate needs in grants and program development.
- Requires manual dexterity to operate computer equipment.
