Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Director and Associate Director of Programming, the Health Promotion Manager is responsible for development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive community health and wellness education program focused on providing every older adult with the information and skills they need to support overall well-being. Based on current knowledge of prevention practices, the Health Promotions Manager will foster an atmosphere of wellness focused on the maintenance of good health by influencing behavior patterns regarding various chronic conditions. They will:

  • Plan, develop, and implement a wide range of health promotion activities targeting chronic health conditions.
  • Conduct and evaluate health promotion interventions to improve health outcomes using evidence based practices.
  • Develop relationships with outside organizations including Health Organizations, Universities or other providers to offer additional classes, internships, resources and studies related to health promotions and evidence-based programs.
  • Disseminate health education information. Areas of focus include: nutrition, chronic disease identification, and prevention.
  • Prepare surveys, gather data, analyze, and present relevant health outcomes and process evaluation metrics.
  • Supervise the Assistant Health Promotions Coordinator and instructors providing health and exercise programs.
  • In coordination with the Associate Director of Programing, help plan and develop resources to expand evidence-based programs across all Older Adult Centers and Clubs.
  • Recruit, Interview and evaluate instructors of Health, Wellness and Evidence based programs in conjunction with Program Directors.
  • Collaborate and consult with internal and external departments on joint programs and projects.
  • Serve as a subject leader and community wellness education expert to older adults, staff, and others on programmatic policies, procedures and activities.
  • Advocate for and implements practices to operationalize diversity, equity, and inclusion in all work functions and responsibilities.
  • Lead planning for outreach programs, conferences, meetings, and seminars on community wellness and older adult wellbeing.
  • Actively participate on and/or leads departmental, divisional, and/or agency committees or workgroups as requested.
  • Perform other duties as required by the supervisor of the site or the VP of Seniors.

COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering comprehensive health promotion and/or health education programs.
  • Experience conducting needs assessments and using results to guide programmatic decisions.
  • Articulated knowledge of health and wellness issues that impact college student success.
  • Demonstrated application of evidence-based and evidence-informed health promotion practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate presentations to large and small audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate information effectively.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary for effective work relationships.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) or (Mandarin) a plus.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Masters degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Community Health Education and/or related field and at least 2 years of relevant experience; or Bachelors degree in a related field and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.in education program planning, development, and evaluation; or an Associates Degree and at least three years of experience in DFTA Health Promotions position and certified in DFTA Evidence Based Programs.
  • Two years of above experience must be serving as a project lead.
