Why does the job exist?

The position will lead Department of Health Overdose Prevention Program Efforts in health systems. This position directly supervises a unit of up to six subordinates and the associated budget. The incumbent will plan, organize and supervise processes and activities intended to reduce rates of fatal and non-fatal overdose. The incumbent will support policy development and be responsible for designing and implementing prevention interventions. The incumbent will provide mentorship, including professional development and internal and external training opportunities (e.g. webinars, workshops) to the unit team team, and will ensure they have tools needed to work effectively.
The position will provide oversight of all unit budgeting and contracting activities. The position will be responsible for HR processes including acting on leave requests, conducting annual performance reviews, and hiring for vacant positions. The position will lead grant writing and management activities for the unit. The position will serve as part of the leadership team of the Overdose Prevention Section.

How does it get done?

Develop objectives and organizational plans for the effective delivery of prevention programs.
Provide oversight of all unit budgeting and contracting activities.
Supervise staff, oversee program coordinators by assigning and directly supervising their work, and performing associated activities including hiring, training, career coaching, disciplinary actions, performance reviews, and acting on leave requests.
Serve as active member of Section Leadership Team.
Develop, maintain, and strengthen internal and external partnerships (both formal and informal) critical to the effective delivery of prevention programs.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of policies relevant to overdose prevention within health systems and contribute to policy review and development.

Ideal Candidate

Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, contracts, and deliverables.
Basic understanding of public health and systems level prevention principles.
Experience in supervising entry-level and experienced employees.
Strong leadership, delegation, and communication skills.
Ability to lead multiple complex, long-term projects with shifting priorities.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology and/or Family Studies/Services and four (4) years of any combination of experience including working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health and/or health care. Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds, and some travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
