The Position
A Heavy Forklift Operator works at East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD’s) major pipeline storage facility. The duties of this single position job classification involve operating a 10-ton capacity forklift to move, place, load and unload heavy pipeline construction materials, supplies and equipment including moving large diameter pipe weighing up to 15,960 pounds. Occasional jobs will involve even larger pipes. This may include loading and unloading trucks, stacking materials on platforms, in storage bins, and other designated areas.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in the following:
• Forklift operation with a capacity larger than 7 tons to load and unload trucks, move construction materials, supplies and equipment in enclosed and open storage areas.
• General forklift cleaning, adjusting, and servicing at proper intervals.
• Storekeeping functions such as applying identification numbers to supplies, taking physical inventory, assisting in reconditioning and salvaging operations and loading and unloading supplies and equipment.
The salary range is $7,867 per month increasing to $8,260, $8,673, and $9,107 after 12, 24, and 36 months, respectively.

Requirements
Any combination of education and experience that has led to the acquisition of the knowledge and abilities indicated above. Typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge and abilities is a combination of training and experience equivalent to:
1. Completion of the eighth grade or its equivalent, and either:
a) One year of experience as a Storekeeper with EBMUD which has included the operation of a forklift; or,
b) One year of experience operating a forklift of at least a two-ton capacity; or,
c) One year of experience operating another related type of equipment designed to move, place or handle heavy objects.
2. Must possess a valid California driver’s license and has a satisfactory driving record.
3. Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the class.
4. Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and work overtime as needed.

The Selection Process

2. Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.
3. All qualified applications and supplemental responses will be competitively evaluated, with those applicants demonstrating the strongest qualifications for the position to be invited to a performance test tentatively scheduled for late November/early-December 2023.
4. Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.
5. The probation period for this position is 12 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.
6. All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening. All selected finalists must participate in the Live Scan background screening process to remain in consideration for EBMUD employment.
