High-Quality Instructional Materials Intern

About Us:

The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) is a public agency serving the State of Ohio by overseeing the state’s K-12 education system. The Department is led by the Superintendent of Public Instruction and governed by the State Board of Education. Data from the 2021-2022 school year show the major impact that the pandemic has had on student learning in Ohio. State assessment results indicate that historically underserved students experienced the greatest decreases in learning as a result of the pandemic. Student performance has been significantly impacted, as in other states. Ohio is committed to providing intensive supports to accelerate learning for students who have been impacted by the events of the past few years and has invested federal funds in three priorities as part of Future Forward Ohio : addressing obstacles to learning, accelerating learning, and preparing students for future success.

The intern who fills this position will report to the Associate Director for the Office of Learning and Instructional Strategies and support activities related to the high-quality instructional materials initiatives. This includes conducting research and analysis as well as providing support for the agency’s efforts to communicate state policy related to high-quality instructional materials selection, adoption and implementation.

Major Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Support and conduct research and program implementation activities for Ohio Materials Matter which support districts and schools with high-quality instructional materials
  • Work in Excel and PowerPoint, Dedoose and other data analysis tools to put together data analysis for stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, graphs, proposals, studies, and correspondence.
  • Conduct research and analysis on nationwide data as well as state-level data to identify trends for high-quality instructional materials through data mining, statistical analysis, and database research
  • Code and analyze quantitative and qualitative data from multiple sources.
  • Provide administrative support to the Office of Learning and Instructional Strategies.
  • Provide interpretations, both in writing and orally, of programmatic milestones, accomplishments, and utilization of resources required for effective impact, and decision making.
  • Organize and categorize HQIM-related data so it can be easily accessed and processed.
  • Preparing presentations for stakeholder engagement
  • Assist with monitoring grantee progress and compliance
  • R esearch and identify grant opportunities and facilitate the grant writing process
  • Identify areas of interest for personal and professional growth
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program

Desired Qualifications:

  • Interested in education policy and research
  • Research and data analysis experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Basic knowledge of Ohio’s academic learning standards
  • Capable of working independently and in a team setting
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to write and communicate succinctly and clearly
  • Experience working in a professional environment
