About the Hoosier Intiative for Re-Entry

The Hoosier Initiative for Re-Entry (HIRE) program was created in 2012 to help clients with past involvement with the legal system reintegrate into society, creating career paths to give them the opportunities to improve their lives in a sustainable way through work. In 2019 the HIRE program was moved to the Indiana Department of Correction with a continued focus on assisting people with past involvement in the criminal justice system. HIRE is working to help prevent adult incarceration by focusing on placing clients into employment that will give them a livable wage and career path for success.

Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 per year but may be commensurate with education and/or experience.

About the Job:

Incumbent will serve as a regional HIRE Coordinator within the IDOC Hoosier Initiative for Re-Entry (HIRE) program. Incumbent will be assigned a region within the state and will be responsible to provide workforce readiness services to IDOC clients housed within correctional facilities and clients supervised by IDOC Parole Districts within that region. Incumbent will also be responsible for employer engagement within their assigned region. Duties include: outreach activities to identify channel partners and stakeholders, development and facilitation of program materials, development of strategies to market program initiatives, conducting outreach activities to develop and solidify relationships with prospective partners and community leaders, and advocate for institutional change in employer attitudes toward the hiring of HIRE clients. Incumbent will reinforce partnerships with assigned facilities and parole districts to assist with securing pre and post-release employment.

This region covers the following Indiana counties: Madison, Hamilton, and Marion.

This region covers the following Parole Districts/Correctional Facilities: PD3, Correctional Industrial Facility, Pendleton Correctional Facility

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Monitor key performance indicators to ensure program effectiveness.
  • Assist in developing, updating, and monitoring all policies and procedures related to the program area.
  • Answer customer questions about program policies and procedures.
  • Act as technical consultant to stakeholders to clarify and interpret policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and disseminate monthly and annual program reports.
  • Review the budget and program assets are allocated appropriately.
  • Monitor compliance and make recommendations to the program to increase efficiencies.
  • Prepare training materials and train agency employees on program requirements and usage.
  • Deliver communication plans and communications.
  • Serve as a liaison between agency and other state and federal agencies.

What You’ll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Working knowledge in program subject matter obtained through experience and/or education.
  • Specialized knowledge of program area including pertinent rules and regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of all source materials and references including federal and state laws governing the programs.
  • Ability to implement new principles and policies and discern any far-reaching implications
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of accounting and budget principles.
