Responsibilities
The HME Technician I position is the first of multiple career opportunities within the Mayo Clinic Stores. Able to help patients with product selection, set up and training of home medical equipment in accordance with provider prescriptions. Gathers registration and insurance information accurately and efficiently, and processes information for payment according to payer requirements. Ability to work with the business office and/or provider for billing or prescription requirements. Handles private patient information in a compliant and confidential manner. Assists with maintaining store inventory including inventory cycle counts and perpetual inventory. Performs duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations of the patient. Provides patient Oxygen, CPAP, Hospital Beds, Wheelchairs, Knee Walkers, and other HME equipment or supplies as needed typically in a home setting. Perform basic preventive vehicle maintenance checks. Assists with inventory management as needed. Responsible for after hours on-call requirements to service home medical equipment emergencies and hospital discharges. Completes equipment assessments, home safety assessments, and minor in home and/or warehouse repair of medical equipment as needed. Properly assembles, cleans and maintains equipment.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience with equipment, repairs, healthcare of DME preferred but not required. Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understand English. Able to learn technical tasks and follow written and verbal directions. Comfortable utilizing technology, problem solving and efficient with software applications. Exceptional customer service and communication skills with high level professionalism and ability to have crucial conversations. Proven ability to multi-task and make good decisions regarding customer service.. Must be able to work independently as needed. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and/or private insurance billing preferred with attention to detail. Able to perform all duties to be on call for needed items (Oxygen, BiPAP w/back up, suction, etc.) Physical and mental stamina to be able to withstand what can often be a fast-paced, stressful environment; potentially on feet 90-100% of the time or driving 90-100% of the time. Must be able to tolerate repetitive hand motion, bending, twisting, and to lifting up to 75 pounds. Must be current on all applicable annual competencies. Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
