Horticulturist/Irrigation Specialist role is responsible for ensuring irrigation lines throughout the property are maintained and are working properly. The technician will perform work requiring knowledge of landscape water management strategies, irrigation scheduling methods, irrigation system auditing, advanced troubleshooting techniques, and the irrigation central control system. The preferred applicant will have experience in and knowledge of horticulture and how irrigation systems affect the surrounding plants and landscape.
Responsibilities:
- Perform basic irrigation functions involved with the physical repair, replacement, adjustment, and installation of irrigation systems
- Test irrigation system routinely and conduct routine maintenance checks
- Troubleshoot and replace faulty parts
- Assist the Landscaping Team with landscape labor to ensure the property’s landscape is maintained at high quality standards
- Map areas for irrigation installation
- Dig trenches and install pipes and lines
- Install pumps and electrical timers
- Complete progress reports and associated paperwork
- Prune and trim shrubs, trees, and bushes utilizing formal and informal pruning techniques
- Operate line trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, mowers, aerators, trenchers, and other small gasoline and battery powered landscape tools
- Operate basic landscape hand tools including, but not limited to; rakes, shovels, brooms, pruning tools, and digging tools
- Perform basic landscape cleanup; remove leaves, branches, soil, plants and landscape debris.
- Apply fertilizers, mulches, compost, sand, and other material for soil/plant amending
- Perform general maintenance work of weed pulling, cleaning planters, dead heading flowers, mulching, hedging, digging, raking, sweeping, and grading
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
- Minimum of five (5) years of commercial irrigation experience required
- Knowledge of Calsense and Motorola irrigation and electrical timer systems
- Ability to read and interpret irrigation drawings and measurements
- Ability to analyze landscape irrigation needs and determine best practices to conserve valuable water resources
- Thorough knowledge of plants and how to maintain and manage them
- Advanced knowledge of landscaping principles
- Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used within the field
- Ability and willingness to work a variety of schedules, overtime, weekends and holidays with short notice
- Ability and willingness to respond to incidents in locations requiring climbing, fall-protection, and other non-traditional work-environments
Additional Qualifications:
- Employee must be a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor with the Irrigation Association. Certification must be active and up to date

- Knowledge of theme park operations
The pay rate for this role starts at $30/hr
