Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field; four years of experience in horticulture, greenhouse, or landscaping work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must obtain Commercial Pesticide Applicator Category #3A & B within six months of employment. Must have a valid registered technician pesticide license. Considerable amount of knowledge concerning all aspects of horticultural technology; ability to multi-task, organize, effectively communicate both orally and in writing; demonstrated ability to effectively use computer in communication and in using various programs; ability to work with a variety of personnel.
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Duties
Maintain landscape beautification at parks, schools, libraries and other county facilities; oversee nutritional and pest control needs of all shrub beds and ornamental trees, as set forth in the parks division “maintenance standards”. Duties also include providing work direction to inmate workforce and seasonal staff; establishing new landscaping; contributing design work to assist volunteer groups as well as facilitation of volunteer groups. Available for emergency storm response. Perform other work as required.

Shift
Monday – Friday; 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; other hours as necessary due to adverse events
