University of Virginia Human Resources is seeking a Communications Specialist to join our supportive and collaborative organization. The position will be responsible for developing and executing communications programs for selected HR departments that provide services and support for the UVA community. The position offers the ability to work across many communications platforms, from print to digital, and allows for great creativity in both design and writing.
The Communications Specialist will partner with HR departments and communicators across the UVA Academic Division and UVA Health to provide communications strategic planning, and implementation of effective programs that engage, inform, and inspire action of target audiences.
The Communications Specialist will work as part of a team in the UVA HR Communications & Marketing department and report to the Director of HR Communications & Marketing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Foster HR brand and develop comprehensive communications plans. Guide messaging, content ideas, publications, content platform integration, and opportunities to increase awareness, communicate initiatives, and advance the UVA HR reputation.
- Create various forms of digital and print communications including webpages, emails, newsletters, collateral, social media posts, website content, presentations, reports.
- Develop presentations, reports, and infographics for use by HR leadership.
- Incorporate graphic design techniques that produce compelling and attractive communications pieces.
- Implement the UVA HR brand platform through design and messaging.
- Build and manage HR website pages using Drupal CMS, and provide analytics on user activity.
- Develop engaging social media content and campaigns to share valuable HR programs and events with the UVA community.
- Build relationships across Grounds and in the community to ensure coordination and alignment of messaging.
- Direct external vendors and agencies on specific projects and events, where appropriate.
- Present review of metrics to gauge success of initiatives and make recommendations for adjusted strategies as needed.
- Partner with team of HR Communications Specialists to share ideas, knowledge, and provide support, while engaging in a culture supportive of professional development.

The anticipated hiring range is $70,000.00-80,000.00 commensurate with qualifications and experience. The selected candidates will pass a background check. This is a full-time, benefited position with UVA benefits . Employee benefits package highlights include:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Business or related field is highly preferred; High School Diploma is required
Experience:
- 5 years’ experience in communications or marketing required
- Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite – InDesign, Photoshop required
- Skilled in Microsoft products, including Word and Powerpoint required
- Knowledge of Google Analytics preferred
- Knowledge of Drupal CMS and Salesforce Marketing Cloud preferred

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
