HR Compliance Lead Specialist (North America) – Scottsdale AZ/Remote

The HR Compliance Lead Specialist’s function is to manage North America immigration compliance activities, and processing of Immigrant and Non-Immigrant visas for current employees and new hires. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring the company’s compliance with relevant legislation and internal policies throughout North America by developing/reviewing, implementing and overseeing policies and programs. With limited direction, the incumbent will conduct regular auditing, follow-up, and reporting on internal processes and procedures.The incumbent will have a key role in providing guidance on issues while being involved with confidential and sensitive information.

Key Accountabilities/Job Duties:

Immigration:

  • Provide subject matter expertise, guidance and consultation to HR Business Partners and Business Leaders on all matters related to Immigration and Work Visas
  • Process all Immigrant and Non-Immigrant visa related to current employees and new hires in consultation with APL Logistics external immigration counsel
  • Responsible for remaining current on federal, state or local laws related to Immigration processes/regulations and related employment law developments influencing HR or the business

HR Compliance

  • Proactively reviews, revises, and brings awareness to Human Resources policies and procedures as needed and according to law and trends
  • Provide administrative support in compiling, documenting and completing requests for information related to legal matters
  • Provide consultation to HR professionals, managers in terms of related policy interpretation and compliance issues
  • Support pre-employment screenings and post-accident and reasonable suspicion testing process and review
  • Manage annual compliance tasks including trainings and renewal of policy acknowledgments
  • Partner and offer guidance with Benefits, HR Business Partners, and Legal to ensure fair and consistent LOA practices
  • Oversee employee document retention practices of both electronic and hard-copied employment documents
  • Support various projects as assigned

Audits & Vendor Management

  • Support Company internal and external audit response and requests for information in partnership with the Senior Manager, HR Operations & Compliance. Follow-up with action plans from findings including recommendations for next steps
  • Support the company’s I-9 and E-Verify program and processes. Handle day-to-day I-9 and E-Verify issues to ensure ongoing compliance; Periodically self-audit to ensure audit readiness; timely and accurate reverification of I-9’s for employees on non-immigrant visas; provide subject matter expertise related to the I-9 process, E-Verify, Immigrant and Non-Immigrant work visas
  • In partnership with external compliance agency, collect, analyze and prepare data in support of EEO, Veterans, Affirmative Action and all other government-reporting requirements
  • Manage all compliance vendor relationships and ensure performance is meeting expectations

Qualifications
Qualifications:

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of work experience and education
  • SPHR/PHR certification preferred

Experiences:

  • 5-7 years of progressive HR compliance and immigration experience
  • Must be able to self-manage daily duties and time in a fast-paced, hectic, changing environment
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion while using company policies and practices to analyze situations, spot potential issues and determine appropriate action
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, regulations, principles, and practices, especially those related to employee records, transactions and compliance
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, oral, and writing skills
  • Strong work ethic, sense of ownership, and ability to work with confidential information

Candidates must be within 250 miles of an APL Logistics facility or office.
The typical salary range for this position is: $84,560 – $100,000.

The actual salary offer will take into account multiple factors including skills, experience, education and location. Please note that the salary details listed in role postings reflect the base salary only, not total compensation, which includes bonus and benefits.
