City Experiences is seeking a Human Resources Generalist for our Hornblower operation in California.
ON SITE Position Full Time, 3 days in San Diego, CA & 2 Days in Newport Beach, CA

About the Opportunity:
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for promoting a highly engaged people centric culture in an environment of collaboration and involvement. Working in conjunction with human resources and operational leaders, this position is responsible for successful application of wage and compensation practices, benefits, performance management, employee relations, and workplace safety. Will require a thorough knowledge of company policies and procedures, state, local and federal employment law.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct candidate interviews as needed and manage the recruitment process.
- Conduct pre-hire and on-boarding activities to support new hires for City Cruises: background checks, E-Verify, and processing in company HRIS system (UKG).
- Facilitate and lead new hire orientation.
- Ensure RSS acknowledgments are completed and signed.
- Communicate benefit plans to crew; ensure all required notices are provided and assist with benefits enrollment.
- Provide proper documentation to payroll on a timely basis.
- Follow up with new crew members to ensure a positive employee experience.
- Provide counsel and direction to crew and managers by interpreting company culture, values and policy.
- Provide guidance regarding policies and procedures, and applicable federal and state laws.
- Manage performance reviews and ensure they are completely timely.
- Act as a trusted resource to crew and managers, providing guidance and direction on employee relations issues, proper documentation, and preparing coaching plans.
- Continuously assesses crew morale, culture and overall employee engagement.
- Conduct employee investigations, with guidance from Director of Human Resources, and review outcomes with VP of HR.
- Review with DHR and VP of HR all major employment decisions related to discipline and termination.
- Partner with the Director of Human Resources to update and develop new policies and procedures.
- Execute all all-human resources action required for crew before payroll is processed (new hires, wages changes, promotions, etc,)
- Ensure federal, state, and local laws are followed.
- Conduct exit interviews, prepare termination paperwork and EDD Paperwork.
- Respond timely to UI claims.
- Process all incident reports in accordance with company standards and state requirements.
- Follow up with crew and insurance adjusters.
- Maintain organized safety and incident files.
- Coordinate claims administration with insurance adjusters.
- Arrange for return-to-work arrangements and meetings.
- Arrange for safety training as needed.
- Ensure files are maintained properly and all information is filed on a timely basis.
- Become a subject matter expert in the HRIS, including data integrity, advanced reporting and analytics.
- Ensure benefit communications and related processes (open enrollment, new hire orientation, termination) are coordinated in an accurate and timely manner.
- Oversee recognition programs (birthdays, anniversaries, company events, etc.)
- Manage all leave benefits in accordance with state and federal compliance, including company paid leave and short-term disability.
- Manage and track crew required certification and licenses.
- Oversee and manage Random Drug Testing Program in accordance with company standards and US Coast Guard requirements, as applicable.

Requirements & Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years of prior HR Generalist experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, SPHR/PHR certification preferred.
- Hospitality, restaurant, travel/tourism experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of state, federal and local California employment laws.
- Highly collaborative with strong interpersonal skills to successfully work across the company.
- Embody our culture and values in all interactions.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Previous experience with HRIS and Payroll systems, UKG preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure.
- Flexible and adaptable to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
- Quick learner, creative, and strategic thinker.
- Ability to travel to two different sites as required on a weekly basis.
