HR Senior Benefits Analyst

Job Description

The Senior Benefit Analyst coordinates all aspects of employee benefits, including health insurance, life insurance, and retirement. The incumbent provides information to new and current employees, providers and administrators; ensures employee benefit coverage and accurate billing; and prepares reports in compliance with benefit regulations.

The position reports to the Director, Benefits and Compensation.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification preferred.

Experience:

  • Job related within specialized field.
  • Increasing levels of responsibility preferred.
  • K-12 school experience preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Administers employee benefit programs in compliance with carrier contracts (e.g., enrolling new employees, explaining benefit options, organizing benefit fairs, mediating benefit eligibility and payment issues, open enrollment, filing claims) to provide maximum coverage to employees within contract specifications.
  • Assists personnel, beneficiaries, and insurance providers in verifying eligibility, conveying information, and processing claims.
  • Develops a wide variety of written materials (e.g., forms, procedures, brochures, pamphlets, claims, leters, memoranda, reports) to document activities, provide written reference, and convey information.
  • Distributes documents (e.g., open enrollment packets, retirement forms, identification cards) to provide information and proof of insurance coverage.
  • Maintains a wide variety of benefit information (e.g., provider contracts, claims files, employee records, etc.) to provide an up-to-date reference and audit trail.
  • Processes a variety of information (e.g., COBRA, health insurance benefits, retirement eligibility) to document and disseminate information to appropriate parties.
  • Reconciles enrollment forms and billings to employee records (e.g., COBRA, retirement, health, FMLA, etc.) to ensure accurate eligibility and payment information and comply with contract provisions.
  • Researches discrepancies between employee, payroll, benefit providers, and government agencies to ensure accuracy of records and maximize eligible payments.
  • Resolves conflicts with benefit providers to verify eligibility, convey information, and process claims. Contacts multiple vendors and representatives to maintain relationships, provide and obtain information, and facilitate resolution of problems. Has frequent interactions with retirement carriers, such as Virginia Retirement System and Principal Financial Group.
  • Prepares all reports in compliance with benefit regulatory requirements. Generates and distributes 1095-C forms as required by the Affordable Care Act using Munis functions and external data sources. Sends final data to IRS, as required.
  • Conducts weekly new employee Benefits Orientation. Maintains/updates Benefits Orientation presentation/PowerPoint as needed. Assists with Retirement Workshops, including presenting specific information as needed.
  • Sets up Open Enrollment online enrollment functions; and facilitates implementation of employee changes in vendor and HRIS systems.
  • Maintains benefits materials and information on ACPS public website.
  • Supports assigned administrators (e.g., preparing special reports) to provide information from which to make operational decisions
  • Assists other personnel as required to ensure an efficient and effective work environment. Provides as-needed coverage for other members of Benefits and Compensation team
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars to convey and receive information required to perform functions
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Clearances

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance

  • Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
