What You’ll Do:
Ohio Department of Public Safety – Director’s Office (Training & Development)
Report In Location: 1970 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43223
Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
(CURRENTLY HYBRID ELIGIBLE) Will report into the office 3 days a week and telework 2 days a week. May be subject to change.
Serve as Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) human resources Training Manager (e.g. coordinate participation in efficiency programs & training efforts directed by the Governor’s office; consult with ODPS division heads to identify training needs or employee skills gaps & develop training to meet those needs; oversee the development of leadership trainings &/or programs for ODPS employees); Advise staff on complex questions &/or issues pertaining to employee training & development; Oversee the development of lesson plans for employee training courses & review appropriateness of course subject-matter &/or training materials & overall instructor effectiveness; Determine courses to be added/deleted; Conduct research within training catalogs, publications, &/or newspapers to stay abreast of latest trends in employee training & development; Establish priorities & supervise subordinate personnel (e.g. provide developmental opportunities & work direction, coach staff to foster development, monitor staff activities to ensure quality customer service & information technology security, evaluate performance, approve section staffing levels, recommend discipline, pre-screen applications & participate in interviews); Formulate & implement program policy (e.g., create written rough draft of ODPS Training Unit policy establishing application procedures &/or course requirements for use in determining all employee’s eligibility/acceptance into desired mid-level management, management & executive-level management training classes; submit proposed policies to supervisor for approval); Oversee employee recognition program.
Communicate with division heads or designee, section administrator, the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) Learning & Professional Development, government officials &/or general public regarding ODPS Training Unit procedures, availability of courses/schedules, questions pertaining to course descriptions, reimbursement opportunities, upcoming training, etc.; Provide technical advice to aid administrators in decision making; Utilize computer software to track pertinent information regarding an employee’s completed course history; Make recommendations to HR Administrator concerning proposed expenditures for training materials & supplies.
Assist Technology based trainers as they assist ODPS divisions with designing & implementing new web-based training suitable to their needs (e.g., determine training needs, design/select appropriate training, ensure classes are conducted successfully by training staff); Ensure employee training records are accurately maintained & available in DPS LMS systems.
Perform other duties as required (e.g., assist supervisor or other HR staff with special projects as needed, represent agency at meetings, conferences, serve on committees, participate in speaking engagements, respond to inquiries, prepare weekly & monthly reports, etc.).

Qualifications
Completion of undergraduate core program in human resources, business or public administration; 24 mos. exp. in human resources which included 12 mos. exp. in supervisory &/or management principles & techniques.
-Or 4 yrs. exp. in human resources.
-Or 12 mos. exp. as Human Capital Management Senior Analyst, 64613.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
