Description

THIS IS A RE-ADVERTISEMENT. PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT RE-APPLY.

The Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission is one of the largest organizations servicing both Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. In both counties, we manage the park systems, and in Prince George’s County, we also develop the public’s recreation programs.

As an HVACR Mechanic, your major responsibilities will be to perform maintenance on rooftop units, ventilation/exhaust fans, heat pumps (split or package), gas or oil systems, and refrigeration systems (i.e. ice machines, freezers, and refrigerators). You will also perform preventive maintenance on air conditioners, ventilation systems, and various equipment, as well as, on dehumidification equipment for pools.

Within our Department of Parks & Recreation, the Facility Services Division (FSD) is the largest Division in Parks & Recreation. We provide high-quality maintenance and maintenance support services for all of the parks and recreation facilities within Prince George’s County. We have six major work areas: Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures (Trade Shops), Horticulture & Forestry, Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects (FMT, Heavy Equipment & ADA), and the Administrative section.

(Work Hours are 6:00 am – 2:45 pm)

(SALARY $42,133-$58,377-$74,621)

We offer an excellent benefits package, opportunities for advancement, and steady employment. You may be required to come in for storm and emergency work.
Examples of Important Duties
The HVACR unit falls under the operational supervision of the Building & Structures section, which provides preventive maintenance, routine/emergency repair, renovations, and alterations to park buildings and structures. The HVACR unit’s mission is to be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and service of various heating/air conditioning systems and ventilation/refrigeration equipment in all facilities (i.e., commercial buildings, stadiums, ice rinks, recreation centers, etc.) throughout the Prince George’s County Commission system.

The incumbent will be given a specific geographical area to perform your daily maintenance duties and you will get to know your facilities and develop good working relationships with your clients. The incumbent will be responsible for this area and the maintenance work done within it. As your skills in commercial HVAC increase, you will have more opportunities to troubleshoot more complex units along with the Sr. HVACR Mechanic. There will be opportunities for training and advancement for mechanics who display a willingness to learn.

We are looking for someone who is willing to take the initiative and wants to learn the “ins and out” of HVACR. You should be able to lift 100 lbs. and you must know HVACR maintenance well enough to work without constant supervision. A “safety first” philosophy is also required because a number of our units are on rooftops – YOU CANNOT BE AFRAID OF HEIGHTS!

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
  2. Completion of an approved HVACR apprentice program or four (4) years of progressively responsible HVACR experience.
