The Ohio Department of Health supports a hybrid teleworking model. This position may work a hybrid schedule at the discretion of the manager or supervisor, which will require occasional attendance in the office for training, meetings and other operational needs. Employees must reside within a reasonable distance to their assigned headquarters for compliance with workplace reporting requirements.
What You’ll Do:
ODH’s Bureau of Infectious Diseases (BID) needs an experienced DATA ENTRY PRO – efficient and accurate! – to help us power through high-volume incoming STI data (Sexually Transmitted Infections) from laboratories, epidemiologists, providers and local health departments. Some background in healthcare information technology, public health, or medicine is an asset but NOT required.
YOU bring your laser focus, precision and work ethic; WE’LL bring the work (!) and all the equipment and ODH-specific training you’ll need to do it (onsite and/or via telework).

Key responsibilities, at a glance:
- Review & sort incoming reports (e.g., machine-readable forms, laboratory results, case reports, other epidemiological investigation data)
- Clarify discrepancies with supervisor or program staff
- Use PC or other data entry equipment to create/update records in various applications (e.g., Ohio Disease Reporting System [ODRS]; MS Office-based databases, tables, spreadsheets, reports &/or other documents)
- Proofread and use software functions (e.g., range checks, duplicate search, etc.) for quality assurance
- Follow all applicable policies on handling sensitive information (e.g., confidentiality, security, HIPAA, access to records)
- Communicate with supervisor on workload, progress, & any issues encountered.
- This is a temporary, special project position and is unclassified in accordance with ORC 124.11(A)(29).

Qualifications
MINIMUM CLASS QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:
- Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary; AND
- 6 mos trg. or 6 mos. exp. in use of data entry equipment;
OR
- 4 mos. exp. as Data Entry Operator 1, 12331;
OR
- equivalent Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
