Position Description
The Immigration Legal Assistant will provide a full range of secretarial, clerical, and administrative support to the immigration department’s legal staff.

Responsibilities
- Communicate with Dari-speaking clients or prospective clients via phone and e-mail.
- Conduct intakes with prospective clients.
- Schedule consultations and appointments for attorneys and DOJ accredited reps.
- Work with clients to gather necessary documentation and information.
- Translate documents from Dari to English and vice versa.
- Conduct research for humanitarian-based immigration cases.
- Provide administrative support including copying, scanning, filing, and maintaining electronic and physical files.
- Be available to complete other office tasks as assigned by legal staff.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the position.
- Associate’s degree.
- At least 6 months of experience in legal support services and/or social services.
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking) and Dari (reading, writing, speaking).
- Able to translate documents from Dari to English.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite.
- Experience with Microsoft Teams and/or Zoom.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Organized and able to multi-task.
- Able to maintain strict client confidentiality and observe and follow all other ethical rules and practices of our organization.
- Able to work independently, complete projects, meet deadlines, and problem solve while maintaining high ethical standards.
- Positive customer service/interpersonal skills.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- Strong desire to work with refugees and immigrants.
- Sensitive to immigrant/client issues, including cultural and religious differences and trauma they may have experienced.
- Able to work within the mission, goals, and objectives of Catholic Community Services of Western Washington.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluent in Pashto (reading, writing, speaking).
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in law, justice, social services, or similar field.
- At least 1 year of experience in immigration legal support services.
- Experience with humanitarian-based immigration applications such as SIV, asylum, TPS.
