INCLUSION SPECIALIST

We are looking for motivated, organized, and creative individuals who can provide a variety of inclusive supports to participants in City programs, activities, and events.
Examples of Duties
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Provides inclusion support to individuals participating in city programs, activities, and events.
- Plans, implements, facilitates, and evaluates year-round programs for individuals with disabilities; promotes and coordinates specific activities within the adaptive recreation program; prepares program event and facility marketing material, including flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets, and brochures; resolves complaints and addresses concerns related to the programs.
- Maintains data and tracks all inclusion performance measures; creates reports for management; completes and maintains required forms and paperwork; maintains participant records.
- Performs assessments and recommends inclusion/behavior plans according to need.
- Manages ADA requests from program participants relating to parks and recreation facilities.
- Works with the Recreation Manager on inclusion program development.
- Assists in developing and making recommendations on policies and procedures based on the ADA while observing and evaluating existing programs.
- Maintains yearly calendar of programs and services available to persons with disabilities; provides information and resources to the public regarding upcoming programs and services.
- Identifies and anticipates the needs of persons with disabilities attending special events, activities, programs, and classes.
- Maintains budgets for assigned programs.
- Coordinates staff training programs that focus on disability awareness.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications

Knowledge of:
Principles and techniques of the supervision and treatment of individuals with disabilities.
Operations, services, and activities of therapeutic recreation programs and services.
Principles and theories of inclusion for persons with disabilities.
Methods and techniques of developing adaptive services and programs.
Applicable policies, procedures, and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.
Personal computers utilizing standard and specialized software applications.
Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of office equipment.
Communicating effectively in oral and written forms.
Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.
Principles and practices of public relations and customer service.
Principles and procedures of record keeping.
Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment, including computers and applicable computer applications.
Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and ordinances.
English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Ability to:
Develop and implement program and project goals, objectives, procedures, and work standards.
Plan, organize, and implement multi-faceted adaptive recreation programs and activities with an emphasis on inclusion.
Exercise sound independent judgment within general procedural guidelines.
Preparing clear, concise, and complete reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
Contribute effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
Use initiative and independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
Recommend and implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for providing adaptive recreation programs.
Plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
React immediately, calmly, and effectively to situations and employ established techniques to resolve issues.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Supplemental Information
Education and Experience Guidelines – Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
An Associate’s degree with major coursework in special education or therapeutic recreation, or a related field is desirable.
Experience:
Two years of training or experience working with people with disabilities.
License or Certificate:
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
Possession of a valid CPR and First Aid certificate.
