Why does the job exist?
The ICW Consultant works with CYFD Workforce to build professional knowledge and practice through consultation, training, coaching, systems development, special projects and partnering with the Nations, Pueblos and Tribes and other community stakeholders. Additionally, the ICW Consultant works with individuals, groups, and units to ensure knowledge of best practices for the best possible outcomes with the goal of the workforce being able to apply to their practice and comply with the federal ICWA and NM IFPA. The ICW Consultant will facilitate peer leaning events, participate in work groups, and continuously work to build their knowledge base. This position is a subject matter expert on Indian Child Welfare laws and practice, as well as on tribal communities; and will provide state-wide consultation, coaching and training services in partnership with Workforce Development Bureau, Office of Performance & Accountability, and Office of Tribal Affairs colleagues.
How does it get done?
¿ Provides regular consultation and coaching sessions with CYFD workforce and supervisors to develop skills to meet the ICWA/ IFPA requirements (55%)
¿ Contributes to work groups intended to improve practice with Native children, youth, families,Tribal partners and external stakeholders (15%)
¿ Conducts training for CYFD workforce specific to developing best practice approaches to serving Native children, youth and families(15%)
¿ Works with CYFD division leaders, Nations, Pueblos, Tribes, and Workforce Development Bureau to build data-informed initiatives to identify the needs and solutions for meeting the trainings needs of the CYFD workforce (5%)
¿ Facilitates meetings with Tribal partners, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to build a network of support which builds training and development to improve services to Tribal children, youth, and families (5%)
¿ Keep Director of Tribal Affairs informed of communication and/or requests from Tribal partners and other stakeholders on a regular basis. (3%)

Ideal Candidate
• Familiar with the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and Indian Family Protection Act (IFPA);
• Training and Coaching adult learners;
• Working with Community based organizations and other stakeholders;
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology and/or Family Studies/Services and four (4) years of any combination of experience including working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health and/or health care. Employment Requirements
Must possess a current and valid Driver’s License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting: late hours and weekends work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel may be required. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints. Must have own mode of transportation. Incumbent may be required to furnish a personal vehicle for carrying out assignments.
