JOB SUMMARY
Assist with art collection maintenance, database management, exhibition planning and implementation, and program promotion and material development for Art in Public Places, the County’s public art program.
Interns will be introduced to all aspects of the public art process within a professional working environment, to help prepare them for careers or graduate programs related to arts administration. The candidate will have an opportunity to learn skills from the different positions held within the Salt Lake County Arts & Culture division and participate in a professional working environment.
This position is 20 hours per week Monday through Friday and possibly some weekends, with flexible hours to accommodate a school schedule.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must be currently enrolled or have graduated within the last two-years in any undergraduate or graduate program.
Preference given to candidates with experience in arts administration, art history, architecture, culture tourism, marketing or design related fields.

- Maintain and update collection database
- Assist with annual inventory on Collections
- Develop social media content and campaigns
- Conduct Collection tours
- Assist program manager in all stages of the Visual Art Collection acquisition process
- Prepare copy for public outreach presentations, web site, and other promotional materials
- Assist with installation of changing exhibitions at the Salt Lake County facilities
- Assist will planning the Salt Lake County Employee Art Exhibition
- Support Community Engagement events and public programs
- Assist with curriculum and accessibility materials development
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Utah artists (preferred not required)
- National public art programs (preferred not required)
Skills and Abilities to:
- Carefully handle and learn proper technique for working with artwork Collection
- Successful candidates will have excellent written and oral communication skills, be detail-driven and organized, and be flexible and comfortable with a fast-pasted working environment
- Be comfortable speaking to small and large audiences of all ages and abilities
- General to advance knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet (Excel), and graphic software (Photoshop)
- Establish prioities and balance several projects at once
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift 50 llbs, including moving paintings, files, drawing, and computer equipment,
- Intermittent exposure to moderate noise levels (such as while visiting construction sites)
- Constant exposure to computer display screens

PAID INTERN POSITIONS:
An “At Will”, FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.

- Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
- Are not considered merit employees.
- Are “at will” employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.
Additional Information
This is a 8 or 9 month internship which will end on December, 31, 2023. Part-time, 20 hours per week at $16 hourly.
